P52-9-49 Perspective: Long Focus/Telephoto
Posted By: Tsukiouji, 06-14-2021, 01:22 PM

From Wikipedia:
Long-focus lenses are best known for making distant objects appear magnified. This effect is similar to moving closer to the object, but is not the same, since perspective is a function solely of viewing location. Two images taken from the same location, one with a wide angle lens and the other with a long-focus lens, will show identical perspective, in that near and far objects appear the same relative size to each other.
Long lenses also make it easier to blur the background more, even when the depth of field is the same; photographers will sometimes use this effect to defocus the background in an image to "separate" it from the subject.

Photos for the Week #49 competition are to be taken between Jun 14 and Jun 20.

Rules:
1. Anyone and everyone who is interested in eligible. The goal continues to be
have fun and share comments, concepts, insights, and techniques with fellow
Pentaxians.
2. Each week will feature a Theme and Sub-concept for you to explore.
3. Post your single picture in Project 52-9 thread for the week. Explain what
motivated you to take the picture and/or how you feel it represents the weekly
theme.
4. Some post-processing is OK (adjusting white balance, exposure, color
saturation), but let's try to stay away from heavily PP'ed images here. Try to
keep the creativity to photographic techniques and the captures themselves.
5. Since this project is about technique, and not camera, shots taken by non Pentax cameras are allowed.
Cameras may be SLRs, DSLRs, Point & Shoot, Medium Format, et cetera. But no phones, please.
6. There is one “Theme Concept” labeled “black and white,” but feel free to post
black and white, sepia, monotone, etc., for any of the other themes.
7. The picture you post should be taken during the week in which the theme is
active to be eligible for judging.
8. Any picture taken from thread start date to listed closing date is acceptable.

Here's a recent one with the KP, DA 1.4 converter, and DA* 300, so it is 420mm, F5.6, ISI 560, 1/320. It is a nice combination to shoot dragonflies, Dragonflies like to watch you as you watch them, this combo gives enough distance to not spook them (usually) while still being able to fill the frame. This is a female Great Blue Skimmer, I did have it misidentified as a Slaty Blue Skimmer.

Had hoped to get some birds splashing in the flower garden water fountain but they were uncooperative so I had to settle for Ruthie in the back pasture shot from our back door. The bull laying down behind her does not have a name.
