Weekly Challenge #556 - Man and Machine
Posted By: StephenHampshire, 09-03-2021, 05:45 AM

So this week, I would like your entries to show the human race interacting with their machines....machines can cover a multidtude of mechanical and electrical contraptions, though to make it more interesting, I'm excluding purely electronic devices such as smart phones.

Rules
1. Post ONE photo (max 1024x1024).
2. The photo must portray an interpretation of the theme.
3. Post your single picture in this thread and explain what motivated you to take the picture and/or how you feel it represents the weekly theme (especially if it's not obvious).
4. The challenge is interactive. Any response is welcome.
5. The judge will pick the WINNERS and choose one of them to be the judge for the next week.
6. This challenge runs for 7 days plus an additional day for the judge to choose the winners.
7. Any Pentax camera can be used.
8. Pictures can be from any time frame, not just within the week of the current theme.
9. In case the winner of a challenge is unable to become the judge for the next challenge, they will PM the #2 winner for that person to be the judge.

My portfolio includes a lot of machines in the form of locomotives, but I've added a few samples of other machines, I'm sure you've all got more varied examples!

I was hoping to get a shot of my dad baling hay with the antique equipment they still use regularly and do a black and white conversion for an old time look, but the weather and me being around didn't cooperate this summer. So instead I'm reaching way back into the archives to when I used to crew for my boss drag racing. I would normally get a press pass, and when I wasn't busy working on his bike getting it ready for another round, I'd go to the start line and the staging lanes to take some pictures. This was taken with my trusty old K10D and Sigma 105 f2.8, from about the 60' mark. This is one of the fuel bikes, and from the light going green to them going past me at the 60' mark was under a second. I eventually got pretty good at pre-focusing and panning. It's funny how different the timing was to get decent pictures, depending on the class of bikes. When they'd run a faster class after a slower one, I'd get the first couple shots of the back half of the bike and vice versa. A fast zoom would have been nice sometimes, but I do have some good shots taken with my old 70-210 f4, manual focus.

Did you get around to judging this Stephen? I'm just wondering if I'm being blind finding the follow up challenge

Agreed Turbo_bird, I'm wondering if anyone can reach out to him who perhaps knows him a little better through here?

According to his statistics his last activity was 11 hours ago. I do not know how accurate that is, but I sure hope he is doing OK.
Maybe we have some other members living in Hampshire.

I just sent him a private message. If I don't hear back in a couple of days we will need to pick a host for the next challenge.
