Project 52-10-4: Architecture
Posted By: djb47, 10-01-2021, 05:53 AM

Architecture photography is a niche that focuses on capturing buildings, monuments, and structures. While lacking dynamics in the classical sense, photos need not be boring. The emphasis is on composition, lighting, contrast and textures. Architecture photography can involve photos of exteriors as well as interiors, new or old. As always be as imaginative/creative as you like when interpreting the theme, creativity is what we're looking for.

Photos for P52-10-4 are to be taken and posted between Oct 1 and Oct 7.

Rules:
1. Anyone and everyone who is interested ineligible. The goal continues to be
have fun and share comments, concepts, insights, and techniques with fellow
Pentaxians.
2.Each week will feature a Theme and Sub-concept for you to explore.
3.Post your single picture in Project 52-10 thread for the week.Explain what
motivated you to take the picture or how it represents the weekly theme.
4. Some post-processing is OK(adjusting white balance, exposure, color
saturation), but let's try to stay away from heavily PP'ed images here. Try to
keep the creativity to photographic techniques and the captures themselves.
5 .Since this project is about technique, shots taken with non-Pentax cameras
are allowed. Cameras may be SLRs, DSLRs, Point& Shoot, Medium Format, etc.
But no phones, please.
6.There is one “Theme Concept” labeled “black and white,” but feel free to post
black and white, sepia, monotone, etc., for any of the other themes.
7. The picture you post should be taken during the week in which the theme is
active to be eligible for judging.
8. Any picture taken from thread start date to listed closing date is acceptable.

I had been waiting for a sunny day to take this photo but Mother Nature would not cooperate. A local church is building a new community center and we're looking at the "bones" of the architecture.

Okay folks, let's see those architecture photos.

It has been a busy couple weeks without opportunity for shooting. A trip to Tennessee, then Ohio and back, and another trip to Ohio and back and no photos. Some spectacular scenery on the interstate highways, but nowhere to stop and take a photo, and no time to pull off to another road to enjoy it. Right before all of this travel I got a kayak and only had one chance to get it out for a trial run. Tonight I got my second time on the kayak and had the KP and 55-300 PLM with me. The pelican case fits very nicely behind the seat. The kayak is a fishing kayak and is very stable. This is the Surf City, North Carolina Bridge. The bridge was completed in 2018 and has a 3773 foot span, it reaches a height of 65 feet, big enough for sailboats to go through. Previous to this bridge was a swing bridge. The bridge connects the mainland with Topsail Island, crossing the Intracoastal Waterway and salt marshes.

Although a person does feature in this shot, I was pleased with a hand held night shot showing the overpass walkway at the local train station.

Now that I've ended my AWOL- here I am to pass judgement. And the winner is Ramseybuckeye (Tom), with a crisp shot of that bridge, with loads of compositional elements in the image -Repetition, reflections, curves and contrasting colors! Well done Tom, though I should disqualify you for leaving the odd dust spot.
