Weekly Challenge #557 -- Square aspect ratio
Posted By: aaacb, 10-05-2021, 03:15 PM

I've been shooting a lot of square images lately, so this is the challenge for this week: square format images, and no other restrictions on subject matter or composition.

The challenge ends on October 15 and I'll post results that weekend.

1. Post ONE photo (max 1024x1024).
2. The photo must portray an interpretation of the theme.
3. Post your single picture in this thread and explain what motivated you to take the picture and/or how you feel it represents the weekly theme (especially if it's not obvious).
4. The challenge is interactive. Any response is welcome.
5. The judge will pick the WINNERS and choose one of them to be the judge for the next week.
6. This challenge runs for 7 days plus an additional day for the judge to choose the winners.
7. Any Pentax camera can be used.
8. Pictures can be from any time frame, not just within the week of the current theme.
9. In case the winner of a challenge is unable to become the judge for the next challenge, they will PM the #2 winner for that person to be the judge.

I'll include a couple of examples, as is tradition, even though the topic probably doesn't need them.

They said I'd find a use for algebra before I turned 80.

[OK, yeah, there's other square ones, but I couldn't resist. ]

A lovely Great Egret, still in breeding plumage, tending to its chicks. Taken with a K-3 with a Sigma 150-500.

I usually crop in square format close up pictures especially when the object is in the center.

Round flowers are very suitable for square photos, although I normally use 4:3 for some unknown reason

I finally got a K1 this fall, and this is one of my first shots taken with it aside from playing in my yard. I had tried using the square crop mode for this challenge, but for some reason the raw files didn't show up properly in my photo editor. I cropped the right side off this one, and I think I like it better anyway. Taken with my old M28 f 2.8, stopped down to about f8 or f11 for the starburst.

Fall fungus, taken in Algonquin Provincial Park a few days ago. The brown and white one is an "Earth Fan", still trying to figure out the red one.
