Potw #39 30/11/08 - 14/12/08 Everyone join in!!
Posted By: Peter Zack, 12-08-2008, 06:36 AM

Hosts Note: Are we loosing some interest in this thread lately? I see lots of new members and it would be great to see whatever you are shooting. It doesn't matter if it's your cat or some odd ball experiments. Just take a moment to show off your stuff! Everyone is welcome.

Welcome to Potw #39 01/12/08 - 14/12/08

This week's photos will cover these dates: Sunday Nov 30th till Sunday December 14th.

Let's keep up the high standard of shots we have seen over the past weeks.

Rules as before:

1) No theme just your favorite stuff.
2) Let's keep it to about 4-6 images per post just so the thread doesn't get too big each week .
3) Any Pentax camera is fine, film, P&S, DSLR (or Samsung DSLR)
4) Runs for 14 days. Sunday Nov 30th till Sunday December 14th.
5) Enter anything you shot last week or this current week until the thread closes.

Thanks for hosting last week, Kevint

So to get things going this week, I have a few experiments. These were taken on Saturday in -4 with a brisk wind off the ocean. Fortunately the salt water doesn't freeze as fast as fresh water. It was just at dawn with all that the great light at that time of day offers.

This last one was part of the reason I took the 3 above. I was contracted to shoot a group of cottages for a web gallery (they are rentals) and wanted a dramatic opening shot to get the customers attention. So I shot some sunsets at the location (the cottages are on a low cliff overlooking the ocean). Then I turned and took some outside building shots. The image below was a layered composite of 2 images to give a more dramatic look. I tried HDR versions but I'm less and less 'sold' on HDR. it's so tough to get a natural looking image from that type of software IMO. Maybe I'm just not good enough at it.

So I hope everyone joins in and posts lots of images. I for one always enjoy everyone's work and like to see what interests you.

Very nice Eagle shots Brad,
They usually have a bunch of branches in front of them when I see them I think he's checking out your pentax, He's tired of seeing white lenses.

Brad : Great shots of the eagle. He is certainly keeping a sharp eye on you.

Just one from many this weekend

I know, I know... people photos...

Cropped a bit for composition. Here is one candidate in the image pool for the museum display designer:

EXIF:
2008-12-07 14:09:11, PENTAX K10D, Exposure Time 1/320 sec., F/4.0, ISO 250, 24mm

Link to EXIF:SmugMug Photo Sharing. Your photos look better here. This is for Gooshin... since SmugMug has locked down EXIF data on external links to photos...

Sepia version with a little motion blur to follow later on... this DA 12-24 is too sharp even at F/4...

Cheers,
Marc

Well you said to post anything!
An old window in need of love

Numbers painted on our curb.

Derelict building in suburban Melbourne.

Typical suburban lane in Melbourne, used for the night cart man to empty the outside dunny.

Although I said I was too stiff and tired to go and take photos, I still had my camera with me all the time. Today was the first clear day for a while, these first two are of the view I have on a clear day when I drive to work.

This one I took a few evenings ago, Charlie had his front leg around Madison as they slept on the Lazy Boy.

Ok...I relent.

I wish that the light was better for this photo, but at 15:30 in early December you take what little is there. (The birds seem to know that they are back lit...)

Great Egret, Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge

Pentax-M 200/4

Even less light for this one...

Red Tailed Hawk (immature), Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge

Pentax-M 200/4

Hand-held from a running car. Both at 1/125s. Really love that SR...

Steve

Great photos everyone, thank you for sharing!

I work too much now days, no daylight to have fun, so few from around the house over past week or so (fascination with large aperture continues) all wide open:

K10D with Cosina 55mm f1.2

K10D with Cosina 55mm f1.2 (very first image with this lens from the camera)

K10D with FA 50mm f1.4 (in camera processed)

K20D with FA 50mm f1.4

Regards,
D

Just got hit with a foot of snow and freezing rain!

Going to try and go out and get some ice coated branches shots today, once this big wet snow stops, because I don't have a weather sealed body...

But here's one I took yesterday of the antique grandfather clock in our hall. I've been trying to practice every day with manual focusing- moving on to my SMC K 30mm. I usually wind up with a couple "keepers" out of these sessions.

Taken wide open (f/2.8) with the K 30mm, some PP in PS and LR:
