Winners - Weekly Challenge #579 - Perfect imperfections
Posted By: Vaskebjorn, 06-02-2022, 03:00 AM

Thank everyone for all the entries. I really liked all of them and they were very diverse. That made judging not easier to be honest and I changed my mind literally last minute. Below my thoughts about the entries and they are obviously all very subjective.

#579

Gump : great photo of a nice little cabin in the woods. Nothing a little spring clean wouldn’t fix I guess. These kind of photo’s always make you wonder how live used to be in days long gone.

Atupdate : i like how the ice envelopes the “late” flower, it almost looks like one of these old paperweights that used to be fashionable but are only collectors items nowadays. The composition and the subdued colors work really well in this photo.

Kerrowdown : I can’t figure out what would be imperfect in this photo other than that it is not raining in Scotland or that Nessy just went under the surface of the lake. Nice moody landscape nevertheless, pretty much how I imagine the Scottish countryside to be.

Jacamar : i do love wilted flowers and this is a good example. The nice old yellow f these spring flowers against a darker background works well. By the way, I saw the next photo of the Queen station stairway in your Flickr account which also would have worked 🙂.

Djb47 : are you sure it’s not the hammer or the hammerer. The hammer does not look professional to me 🙂 as it has a plastic handle and comes with a warning label. What kind of hammer comes with a warning label is the first thought that popped onto my mind seeing this photo. I like the composition of the shot and the fact that there is still one straight nail creating a imperfect imperfection.

Yaki : trees and forests, something I really like. I don’t get to see many of them these days due to reasons (forests that is and not trees). These fallen trees always are a good opportunity to get some spooky shots if you go in on an early morning when there is a bit of fog. You chose a sunny day and it works really well I must say.

Noelcmn : well, he got the color right, so that would be not imperfect. I have Moroccan tiles in my kitchen that are only slightly darker, but that red. And the little slip of the brush on the light switch just adds character. Unless the rest is immaculate obviously. Nice catch though and the minimalistic composition works very well.

Pacerr : nice catch and the editing shows indeed the fleeting nature of nature. But somehow I think there is a bit more then 2 days inbetween these two photo’s. Like Yaki said, both thruths are real, but I would prefer the right one. I think this would be a good addition for a gallery.

Hattifnatt : the notorious tub in a meadow. I think you see them in a lot of places (at least overhere in the Netherlands you can encounter them). I like the setting of this one in the sunset. I would almost be inclined to say this is perfection. But the tub is rusty which gives the imperfection in this shot. Good eye I must say as this moment can not have lasted very long.

1. Djb47
2. Atupdate
3. Jacamar

Special HonorableMention : Kerrowdown for showing us that it can be dry in Scotland (apart from the whiskey obviously)

"Yesterday and tomorrow: The difference a day makes."

Meant metaphorically, not literally.

04/14 and 04/22 actually - per EXIF.

I didn’t check the exif data though . I thoughtseeing the flowers, wilting does not go that fast.

Thanks Vaskeblorn for the idea, the judging and the considerate comments. If anyone ever starts a "liminal spaces" challenge I might submit the Queen subway stairwell!

you are welcome Jacamar but I forgot what the rules were, You know old age and such was it something like the #3 does the next challenge . But then again you can’t enter in your own challenge.
Maybe if we all focus Djb47 will get a surprising idea.
But I honestly really like your stairwell photo. It’s very “strong”

Appreciate the nod Vaskebjorn. The hammer is indeed not professional as it came from the Dollar Store. Thanks for the heads up, I never noticed the warning label. Who reads warning labels on hammers eh? Definitely a hammerer problem but I like the idea of a liminial space challenge.

Congrats djb47, worthy winner, tells a story that one. And extended to Atupdate and Jacamar, and the HM Kerrowdown. Thanks for the challenge and he judging exercise Vaskebjorn! As always, these are much appreciated! Not to find some liminal stuff.

Many thanks for my "Special Honourable Mention"

The clue I thought was in the title "Perfect Imperfection Reflection" or in this case a lack of reflection.

That must be the famous Scottish subtlety then. It went straight past me but then i am Dutch, we are bluntly direct apparently

Really... that's good to know, as we Scots (especially Highlanders) are not normally associated with having such nuances.

Not the case when compared to one of your immediate neighbouring countries.

You also have another additional bonus... which is retaining a sense of humour, which they don't.
