Winners - Weekly Challenge #595 - Lights and Shadows in b&w
Posted By: jchorst, 11-29-2022, 01:09 PM

Sorry for the delay, the World Cup was keeping me busy yesterday. Thanks everybody for contributing, here are some quick remarks on your entries:

ramseybuckeye - Having grown up with cats, I know that look! Great lighting and shadow play.I like the ominous blackness where the cat seems to come from.
rod_grant - Well balanced landscape.with interesting cloud formations.
aaacb - A great example of making normal things (a radiator?) look spectacular. Great geometry!
atupdate - Great capture with strong contrasts.
jacamar - Water and ice in a chilling picture.
Vaskebjorn - Stong composition, giving a feeling like watching a suspense movie.
Kerrowdown - A shining flower, put in scene well.
pacerr - Compelling contrasts between lights and shadows, lines and curves, buildings and nature. You can feel the heat.
Moby Grape - Simply cute kitten.
jheu02 - Fascinating shadow play.
glinda - Interesting display of undergrowth, maybe lacking a clear motive.
gump - Another strong contrast between nature and structure. Convincing format selection.
noelcmn - I like the idea of just a few light spots, but in my opinion it's a little bit too dark.
Bruce Clark - Great lighting, fine composition.

mikharPF - Simply great landscape, worth being framed.

It wasn't easy to pick winners, bue there you go:

Third place: aaacb - for an ominous radiator.

Second place: Vaskebjorn - for a picture like a Hitchcock scene.

First place: mikharPF - for a lonely hut in a great landscape shot.

That's it. Your turn, mikharPF!

Thank you for the third spot, looking at the top spots I'm happy to be in such good company! Btw, it's the corner of a building and ssidewalk.

Thanks for the second place and congrats to mikharPF and aaacb. And enjoyed the challenge, so thanks jchorst. But you can not tell me some kicking a ball around a green field is more important than a Pentax photo challenge, especially when it’s yours

You are absolutely right, of course, and I deeply regret my sin. As a penance, I will watch the German team tomorrow, trying to get around three parked busses, aka the Costa Rica defense.

Good luck to you for the match . I don’t watch it myself, but you never know NL and DE might end up in a match somewhere down the line. We will have to beat the US for that first I think which theoretically should be no problem, but this championship is “somewhat unconventional” in that regards I guess.

Hello everybody, thank you very much for your comments, I am very glad you liked my picture. I would like to be a juge for the next challenge but I am not an Englishspeaking guy and I can not express myself clair enough in English . It makes me feel uncomfortable. I am afraid I will not be able to make clear comments about the pictures of the participants. (this is my daughter who wrote this text). So I propose Vaskebjorn who took the second place to launch the next challenge.

Hi MikharPF,

I understand where you are coming from. I will be honored to host in your place and I hope somewhere down the road you will host a challenge. No need to worry as we are all Pentaxians.

I obviously have no problem hosting the challenge, but only if you are sure. No one holds it against you or anyone if your English is not perfect. There various people on here that are non-native English. So, the choice is up to you and if you still decide to hand it over to me than i would be honored to host the challenge in your place, but in that case I would like you to set the subject of the challenge.

Thank you for not refusing to ease my fate. Now I live in a picturesque countryside. You can use theme with tags: pastoralis, pastorale, campagne, ranch, farm, shepherdess, cowboy.
Autumn fog, fog in the mountains is also an interesting topic.

Hi MikharPf,

Unfortunately I already opened the challenge with another theme, but i will keep this one in mind for a next one if that happens, although that theme is worlds away from what I normally shoot.
