Weekly Challenge #83: Machines

Weekly Challenge #83: Machines

I am hoping this is a generic enough topic to encourage lots of entries and will make the judging a challenge.

Machines can be big or small, old or new. Extra credit for those that use interesting framing or use a selective dof to emphasize parts of the machine. I think this subject has great possibilities from macro's of small parts of machines all the way to machines bigger than a house.

Contest begins now and will run until 5pm Pacific time on Sunday Jan. 4th. Winners will be posted on the evening of Sunday, Jan. 4, 2009.

Good luck and have fun!

Frank
--------------------------------------------
As usual the Rules are as Follows :

1. Post ONE photo (max 1000x1000).
2. The photo must portray an interpretation of the theme. It can be color or B&W, your choice.
3. You can offer as much or as little additional information as you wish, but if you have to explain it, it probably doesn’t communicate what you are trying for.
4. The challenge is interactive. Any response is welcome.
5. The judge will pick the WINNERS and chose 1 of them to be the judge for the next week.
6. This challenge runs for 7 days plus a day for the judge to choose the winners.
7. Any Pentax camera will do or a Samsung DSLR.

Great shot Peter, but shouldn't you be calling yourself "Peter Zck" from now on? Or maybe "Peter Z_ck"

You're one tough photographer to get that shot.

Back to railroad stuff
Switch engine, called a "mule" circa 1926 or so. The long poles with the wheels on their ends were to get power from overhead wire. Also note the "contact shoes" to pick up power from the third rail. I think at the time it was built, they expected it to work with LIRR and New Haven lines also.

Peter, the suffering was well worth the effort. A great result.

The old saying applies, I think:

"You dont have to be mad to be a good photographer, but sometimes it helps!"

Probably pushing the definition of 'machine' a bit, but here's a device for automatically closing gates..

Dave, that's a GREAT machine! Easy to fix too unless you have to bore a new hole in the rock.

Not very artistic, but I like the concept, big machine with little machine, like father and son.

Working late into the night

The fog has been REALLY thick the last couple days, but thought it provided a good effect to the cranes in this capture
