#601 - The Telephone
Posted By: Kerrowdown, 01-14-2023, 02:11 PM

This week let us all consider one of our more humble everyday items... we tend to take them for granted, but would perhaps struggle now without.

The fine print:

Every week, a new theme is picked and judged by the winner of the previous week.

This challenge will run until 20th January 2023 @ 20:00 GMT.

Here's mine... that has served well since the 50's

Rules:
1. Post ONE photo.
2. The photo must portray an interpretation of the theme.
3. Post your single picture in this thread and explain what motivated you to take the picture and/or how you feel it represents the weekly theme (especially if it's not obvious).
4. The challenge is interactive. Any response is welcome.
5. The judge will pick the WINNERS and choose one of them to be the judge for the next week.
6. This challenge runs for 7 days plus an additional day for the judge to choose the winners.
7. Any Pentax camera can be used.
8. Pictures can be from any time frame, not just within the week of the current theme.
9. In case the winner of a challenge is unable to become the judge for the next challenge, they will PM the #2 winner for that person to be the judge.

One day I was visiting a city lunatic. He was engaged in designing and creating complex mechanical machines for communication with other universes, and his small apartment resembles the interiors from the MYST series of games. This old device is almost the only ordinary device.

Some great shots i have to say. My take on the subject is a bit different, so I hope it qualifies.

For a good time, call.
I've done a similar shot before with an old PowerShot TX1. And after seeing this weekly challenge subject, I thought I'd update the theme with a new version.

I remember when the only time people got emotional over someone else using a phone it was because they shared a party line. That was then, this is now:

welp, here's my phone. even two, one for everyday use, one for side job, which requires me to pick up the calls on secondary phone. and my PSVita near them, for gaming, bc my phones aren't for playing, they are tools.

this trio is old, but trusty and gets everything i need, done. what can i ask for?
whew, made it in time.

Winners for Weekly Challenge #601 - The Telephone

Well thanks to everybody for their submissions... of which there were many for this piece of light relief this week.

This was an easy subject to make a challenge and one that we can all relate to in some way or other.

Just a few comments about images that made me smile.

Bruce Clark - a cracking spelling guide to saying it as it's pronounced... just as it says on the outside of the box.

jheu02 - "How the call is REALLY made...", I don't think that my example has all that gubbins inside, as most of that hadn't been invented yet, but certainly colourful mind.

noelcmn - "ET could not call home with this one"... guess we're gonna just have to take your word for that.

AstroDave - "We're sorry, your call can not be completed", think I'm gonna have to disqualify you... I only asked for one thing and that's the bit missing.

ramseybuckeye - "I remember when the only time people got emotional over someone else using a phone it was because they shared a party line."... that's exactly the purpose of that additional Call Exchange button on my handset, to gain short term exclusive use of a shared line.

Ok... well my winner is Bruce Clark with his Telaphone, with Honourable Hentions to both jheu02 and Fdooch.

So over Bruce Clark for the next Challenge.
