Weekly Challenge #89: Weather
Posted By: schmikey, 02-22-2009, 03:51 PM

This weeks topic: Weather

The theme for this Weekly Challenge is Weather. The photo can be the weather or weather can be an integral part of the photo. We're always talking about the weather - here's your chance to express it through the lens of a Pentax camera!

Happy shooting!

All entries to be posted by Midnight EST Sunday March 1st.

Looking forward to the difficult task of 'judging' the best Weather photo

Mike

Here is my humble attempt. K110D, with Super Takumar 35mm F3.5. Was the first measurable snowfall we have had so far, just wanted to get a few shots, the guy walking down the sidewalk was a bonus. And also was dying to take some more shots with the Takumar 35...

Day Brightener

This was captured while I was downtown to attend a presentation on histograms. I arrived early and did a bit of architectural and winter photography while awaiting the start of class.
K100D, DA18-55 at 55 mm,1/180, f8, ISO400, spot metering, handheld

An unseasonal storm on the Dachstein in Austria.

It wrecked my day big time.

Foggy Morning Ride

Not a great photo but it was weather. Taken on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

A shot from Aug 2007, looking out my office window at a storm front that rolled across Lincoln, Nebraska. This wall cloud came into view, passed over, and was gone from view in about 1/2 hour... Yes, we were listening for the tornado sirens and were quite prepared to run for our shelter room...

A spontaneous shot from my front driveway as I was leaving for work one morning, converted to B/W. I either call it, "A Storm's a comin'" or "Sunrise Behind the Clouds" - I know, not very creative but it's what I've got.

Nice photos above, everybody. That one with the airplane silohuetted against the sky is killer.

Finally we got some snow here in the south of Sweden, of course it started melting away the day after it fell.

Like many of us on this forum, I'm always trying to "see" a good image while traveling. Driving through storms is almost always productive...just watch out for flying cows!

These classic anvil clouds would be dangerous in the midwestern U.S. In the area I saw them--Eastern Washington state in the U.S. risks of tornado are pretty slim.

What drew me to this shot was the simplistic design with 3 colors and the 3 lobes of the clouds.

rare weather phenomena: Mother of Pearl clouds

There were extraordinary many of these rare clouds one year ago (which I have documented here)

My favourite shot of the bunch is this one, because it looks more like a painting than a photo:

In Namibia, the mere presence of clouds is a remarkable occurrence:
