Picture of the Week Year two 03/30/09 - 04/05/09
Welcome to POTW #55

I was honoured to be invited by dadipentak to host this week. I really appreciate how this recurring thread encourages mixing forum visits with getting out there & taking shots (I'm working on it! Thank goodness it's finally warming up here in Canada) and sharing those shots with a community that cares. So shoot, post and comment away!

Rules as before:

1) No theme just your favorite stuff.
2) Let's keep it to about 4-6 images per post just so the thread doesn't get too big each week.
3) Any Pentax camera is fine, film, P&S, DSLR (or Samsung DSLR)
4) Date : Sunday 03/29/09 - Sunday 04/05/09
5) Enter anything you shot last week or this current week until the thread closes.

bouquet / bokeh?

Ok I spent too much time trying to put something worth while into this weeks weekly challange it's making me kinda crazy! Since I'm probably going to spend the rest of any free time I get trying to come up with the ultimate bokeh shot before the deadline instead of just taking normal pictures (yes I do sometimes become obsessive) , I'll post a few here that I didn't post there.

There are some really nice shots this week, most impressive.

Dadipentak : Love those bud shots. Beautifully done.

Peter : what a great series. Love that searchlight shot. Certainly different.

Dave : Like your shots, but surely you are getting to the end of the snow season by now. And thanks for the comments on the birds, as I said, very rare around here, was extremely lucky to get a shot at all.

Venturi : Really nice shots. Interesting variesties of the azalea especially the cream tone. And more snow, you people must get rather sick of it surely.

Vinceloc : Love the boat shot and the flax(?) colours and pattern well done.

Borno : Interesting bird shots. Really like the second.

Octavmandru : those scenes are nicely taken. Very tranquil and calming.

Seacapt : Nice shots of the blossom. Nice bouquet. A sign of spring coming obviously.

Birches in a nature reserve (these birches are rare in Italy!)

thanks for hosting, David!

planedriver - like the boat

dadipentak - well done with the buds

Peter - really like the last two

Dave - always interesting when you bust out the fisheye!

Bruce - interesting bird that we don't have up here

Jim - flowers and snow, rare combination - first one is my favorite

Vincent - welcome to POTW (I think) first one is really striking, I like the boat, too

Tom - a goose, finally a bird that I have gotten a picture of. Not this good, though

octavmandru - another POTW newcomer? welcome! nice series

Ken - good flowers, last one is my favorite

Rense - those birches are common around here! like the fisheye shot!

I was out earlier this week to get my shot for the 50mm/sepia challenge, here's some other shots from that outing (click for bigger version)

I will probably do a B&W conversion on this one:

it was a beautiful New England spring day:

looking forward to Pentaxium this weekend, I will be in the Maine woods with
some friends!

He said, and yet I've not made a single comment all week!

No time for review of posts to date from me just at the moment (stealing time from work) but I'll quickly share this uninspired shot I took while forced out of the building by a fire drill:

(Check the EXIF--two long-lusted-for lenses came in the mail yesterday! This one isn't rparmar's K01 Komine/Viv 28mm Close Focus f/2--though really that would have been the lens to use, but it wasn't the lens on my camera when the fire alarm went off).

I found a bit on this building when googling to confirm others thought it said "Scharf" and not "Schaff":
exploring Ottawa The Ottawa Project

Comments and photos from rparmar's K01 when I can russle up some more time!

seacapt - nice bokeh rejects I like the first one the best

Bruce - thanks for the comments

Rense - nice series - we see lots of birch here and that tombs is a great shot well done. And finally a huge fan of the fisheye all I can say is I LOVE the last shot.

timbo13 - thanks for the comments.. Nice fungi. Like the reflection of the truck as well - indeed spring can be a nasty dirty time.

David - congrats on the new lenses - that one looks sharp nice bricks.

Shot these today from a kayak. Have a slightly freaky moment when I drifted into within 4 feet of one of these bad boys while I was busy with the camera gear. He slithered off the shore and gave me quite a splash with mighty tail slap. If the gesture wasn't intentional it was at least very weill aimed.

This guy had a bit of his tail missing as well as some of the hind leg.

regards,
tom

Abstracts in red and yellow

I'm currently taking a photography class at the local community college. Besides assignments on the usual things like color, perspective, and B&W, our instructor has encouraged us to experiment and try something different - here's a couple of abstracts that would qualify as something different.
