Weekly Challenge #94: Balance

Balance: subject placement within the frame.

I'm probably the worst candidate to host much less judge a challenge, but since the honor fell upon my shoulders, I decided I would come up with a challenge that tests one's ability and more importantly ones idea(s) regarding composition. hopefully this will inspire everyone to try and achieve such a state [of balance]. not terribly difficult, yet vague enough to leave room for interpretation. as a street photographer I generally fail at this quite often. it is an essential element to the basics of photographic composition yet can be very hard to achieve with most subject matter. give it your best shot and lets see what you come up with.

contest will close Tuesday, April 14 (7 days) I will post the judging results Wednesday, April 15

inspiring enough Gary? yea probably not. oh well.

My entry to this weeks contest of balance.
It is a shot I took under the Rainbow Bridge that spans the Niagara River between Niagara Falls, Canada and USA.

So the balance comes from the visual impact of the aspect of the photograph and symmetry of the engineered design which gives it strength.
(Thanks to Bruce for the inspiration to use a bridge photograph. )

Perhaps this isn't quite what you're looking for, but I'll share nonetheless.

Family photo in the shape of a pyramid, with everyone standing on one foot (or no feet) for a bit more of a literal translation of "balance" as well.

Camera's been out of commission for a while. Haven't participated lately. Here is my attempt. Taken at the Fredrick Meijer Gardens Yesterday by my son on his Pentax Optio Point and shoot.
Enjoy.

Right-o: been agonizing about this contest! I think balance is so difficult to establish in a shot without emphasizing symmetry, which to me are two different things. How the subject is best "balanced" is so difficult- I tend to fall towards the camp of assymetrical balance, to keep the flow moving in shots, trying to avoid the static. Ansbert's shot is amazing in it's asymmetrical balance, with such great rule of thirds composition!

Here's my humble entry. Trying to balance the weight of the door and wall bricks with the strong diagonal and the curve and randomness of the cobblestones. Heavy PP in LR for a rather dull shot to begin with! Tamron SP 90mm f/2.5- shot in old port, Montreal, QC.

I think you're going to have a hard job even though there aren't as many entries as last week Séamuis.
