Weekly Challenge #96: "Opposing Gravity"
Posted By: kevindt, 04-22-2009, 01:04 PM

Having reviewed the many innovative and varied titles in the history of this challenge - soon to be at its 100th week - I would like to propose the following title - "Opposing gravity"

This is wide open to interpretation. A very simple and obvious example is the little insect here in flight, preparing to land.

However, there are many, many more interpretations - a ball or projectile in flight, a weight-lifter in action, a highly cantilevered building ... I leave it to you.

Because of the wide spread of subjects that may portray the title (and because I've never judged before ) innovative interpretation and appropriateness to the title will rank high as well as photographic quality.

This contest will close Tuesday, April 28 (7 days). I will post the judging results Wednesday, April 29

I'm looking forward to seeing what you can come up with.

Try this if you can. Jump in a pool and lift yourself up to hip level by treading water. I tried and failed abysmally.

Cheers

I'll add one in, just for fun, since I cannot judge my own .

These flumes date back to the 1880's when gold mining companies built them high along the valley sides (along the 1500' contour here), keeping water way above its natural course for many miles to use it for hydraulic mining. Gravity and geography would normally have this water 500' plus lower in the West Fork of the Feather River (way down below us).

This is one scary hike for those of us whose don't enjoy heights!

The infinity room

Here is a photo of the structure that came to mind the instant I saw this thread. Fortunately, my travels for work brought me past it just long enough to stop and grab a shot.

This is the infinity room of The House on the Rock, which sticks out from the side of the house unsupported 218 feet over the valley below. Definately an attraction worth a visit if you're spending a little time in Southern WI. House on the Rock - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Geez Louiz!
I can not believe that this challenge went an entire week and that is the first moon shot in the thread. Nice save there, m80!

lol... it wasn't my 1st intent. With this weekend's outing not having netted a photo for the challenge, I decided I'd just post an old shot of a black & white squirrel climbing either side of a tree. As I traversed my gallery looking for that, I saw this and, :lightbulb:.
