Weekly Challenge #99: Extraordinarily Ordinary
Posted By: clawhammer, 05-20-2009, 10:01 PM

This weeks contest theme is 'Extraordinarily Ordinary'. We're looking for a fresh look on ordinary, everyday subjects. It needn't be simple, just ordinary.

Good luck, I can't wait to see what y'all have got!

The last day for submissions will be thursday, May 28th at around midnight EST (so late thursday night). I will judge them that night and post the results Friday morning.
_____________________________________
The rules are as follows...

1. Post ONE photo (max 1000x1000).
2. The photo must portray an interpretation of the theme. It can be color or B&W, your choice.
3. Post your single picture in this thread, and explain what motivated you to take the picture and/or how you feel it represents the weekly theme
4. The challenge is interactive. Any response is welcome.
5. The judge will pick the WINNERS and chose 1 of them to be the judge for the next week.
6. This challenge runs for 7 days plus a day for the judge to choose the winners.
7. Any Pentax camera will do or a Samsung DSLR.
8. Pictures can be from any time frame, not just within the week of the current theme.

Well, I'm new here but keen to get involved.
This was one of the first pictures I took with my K10D, back in Dec 2007.
I like the fact that in essence it's just a picture of some roofs and chimneys but I feel it makes a comment on modernity...the chimneys are no longer used for their original function (there's no smoke) but are now used as convenient places to strap TV aerials.

This picture was taken with my Samsung GX-1S and the lens used was actually bought with the Pentax Spotmatic in the image below for $40. I really love the colors, the DoF, the sharpness of the camera and the shoulder strap, the reflection, and above all else the spotmatic camera itself. the lens is a 150mm Super Takumar manual lens. Please click on image for larger view. Thanks!

All the shots above are fantastic - wow!

Going to see Santa when you are young is pretty ordinary I would think. I used a shallow dof and cropped out Santa's face to add a bit of mystery.

Well, just as well throw my hat into the ring-

Changed my mind on the submission. This is a shot of a wonderful old door in Old Port, Montreal. Very ordinary. Beautifully extraordinary.

Let the judging begin! The polls are now closed, NBC and CNN are speculating on the winners, and I'll have the results posted in the morning.
