Welcome to Picture of the Week 05/24/09 - 06/07/09 #64

Another great POTW and some excellent images. Nice to see everyone's stuff and so many of you willing to share. Doesn't matter if it's a snap shot of the kids or a masterpiece that will make you famous. We wanna see what's been in your viewfinder.

You can see last weeks POTW here.

All of the past POTW's are now linked below under the name of the host. So it's easy to go back and view some past weeks.

Rules as before:

1) No theme just your favorite stuff.
2) Let's keep it to about 4-6 images per post just so the thread doesn't get too big each week.
3) Any Pentax camera is fine, film, P&S, DSLR (or Samsung DSLR)
4) Date : Sunday 05/24/09 to Sunday 06/07/09. Enter anything you shot last week or during this current week until the thread closes.

So to get things started. We have a new statue in Charlottetown. Yeah I know, boring... well not so much. It's fun to watch the passers by sit with him and how some are taken by surprise at his stare. Unique and it works well. This is our first Prime Minister Sir John A Macdonald (1867) and a logical choice since this is the city where Canada began.

I liked how the 2 old guys were sitting in the background as well.

Peter, thanks for hosting again this POTW. Last weeks threads were great, and I hope this one will be as good as the former! Thank you all for showing the things you like .

Peter, great shot of a great statue. I think B&W works very well on this one!

Here are some of mine from this morning. I am not so much of a birder, as I wrote several times before, but it is a great thing to shoot birds - at least when there is nothing else to shoot . Both are made with the Super-Takumar 200/4 @ f/8 (or so), ISO800 ( forgot to turn it back from shooting last night), 1/200" (#1), 1/100" (#2).

And a couple more.
A hot cup of cappuccino:

The trees are all in flower here now:

The little sign in the window says, "Happy Glass". It a second floor glass blowing shop with someone working on a project.

I cropped this from a larger picture-it gives me a good idea what kind of pictures can I take next time with a longer lens.

My favourite place-the new reed became bigger and greener, the clouds and lights were different compared to the last time I was there...

...so I couldn't resist to do some boat pictures again this morning.

Peter - thanks for hosting this weeks POTW. Thread. Nice statue of Sir John A. I can see there will be thousands of shot of him and a his friends

Rense - nice bird captures. They are tough little buggers to get good shots of and these are good. Really nice colors.

Peter - another good series. Nice tilt and BW on the cappuccino. The tress here are mostly in bloom as well, nice isolation. I like old brick buildings nice shot.

Andras - make sure the plane is not moving haha but I suppose you are the pilot so that should be safe. The boat shots on that huge lake have become your trademark, always enjoy the unique aspect each shot has.

Peter-that's a very good looking statue and a very good theme with lots of opportunities in it. I can imagine having somebody sitting next to Sir Macdonald and taking a close up shot of their faces-maybe facing each other maybe the individual looking away too so they both looking at the same distant spot...
...and an interesting tilt on the cappuccino serves this picture very well-I also like the hot steam on it.

Rense-I like the sharpness and colors of the first one very much-dark and bright areas are in good balance.

Yes so this means they can't leave me behind

BTW Dave a few weeks before you were missing some car picture from me so here's an old Fiat (made in Poland). Now a rare sight but twenty years ago it was very common I learned to drive on my mother's when I was 10

Had my son's high school graduation last night .. a little over 400 grads. The lighting was terrible, the crowds huge but it was fun none the less.

There were divided into 4 sections - a few speaches , some entertainment then one section would go up and get their diploma

Once the ceremony was over and before the dance it was off the a popular photography spot. There were about 300 grads there , 500 parents , friends, and about 1000 cameras of all shapes and sizes , everyone jocking for the 'shot'. I actually ran into a guy there with a Pentax K10D that is two I have met in the last couple of monts !

The real kicker was as this is a popular spot , there were a couple of wedding parites there - haha all of sudden getting wedding shots became 'a challenge'. I saw a few of them leave for the plan B site.

Peter - nice additions! I especially like the cappucino shot, very subtle, very artistic, well done!
András - nice pics again, it's great to see the surroundings change during the season. A great blue sky on the plane shot! Thanks for your kind words...
Dave - I've seen the series in the PYP section too, and I have to say you did a fine job under difficult circumstances! I very much like the second one in this POTW series, because it has a nice rithm....

Great start of a new week, where will it bring us?

First time posting in the POTW! This is the one thread I check daily, it's my favorite so now I must join in.

Andras, I always love your boats.

I attended the last tour/reunion tour for Nine Inch Nails and Jane's Addiction this Wednesday in Kansas City and took a few shots in between enjoying the show. Still learning the K20D but I'm loving this camera. I relied more on the auto settings than I wanted but still got some decent keepers. It's very nice to have the extra MP to crop tighter....I think I need the DA* 50-135 though!

Windblown Poppy

This was photographed with a Pentax K100D, SMC Pentax 1:4/100 mm macro (bought through Pentaxforums), f/32, ISO 400, shortly before an afternoon rain shower, center-weighted average metering, tripod mounted.

Comments and suggestions are welcome.

A great start again

Andras : when it comes to planes and boats, you have the game sewn up I reckon. Great shots again.

Rense : nice bird shot. Love the subtle colours

Peter : nice shots as well. I think the reds of the second shot are really beautiful.

Dave : well taken shots of a special occasion. I particularly like the first, the mass effect.

Macgirl : fantastic mood shot. Great stage atmosphere. Well done!

SMF : beautifully taken flower shot. Very nice.

And a couple of rather ordinary shots from me. Shocking weather, rain/cloud etc. Hence poor light didn't give me much of a chance to get a really sharp shot. And this Mynahs are so quick.

Nice pics of the noisy miner Bruce, btw they are not minahs as such but in the miner group of birds and related to bell birds. Cheeky little buggers aren't they.

Peter, thanks for hosting again! Nice start to the week with a lot of great shots already. This one is not great, just unusual. I never see a sailboat on the Mississippi River. It is probably about 3/4ths of a mile away, with the DA 55-300 and handheld. If I'd known that I'd see this, I would have brought the Bigma and a tripod... instead, I settled for this.
