Welcome to Picture of the Week 06/01/09 - 06/14/09 #65

Another great POTW last week. Lots of participation and some excellent images. Nice to see everyone's stuff and so many of you willing to share. Doesn't matter if it's a snap shot of the kids or a masterpiece that will make you famous. We wanna see what's been in your viewfinder.

You can see last weeks POTW here.

All of the past POTW's are now linked below under the name of the host. So it's easy to go back and view some past weeks.
[/B]
Rules as before:

1) No theme just your favorite stuff.
2) Let's keep it to about 4-6 images per post just so the thread doesn't get too big each week.
3) Any Pentax camera is fine, film, P&S, DSLR (or Samsung DSLR)
4) Date : Sunday 05/24/09 to Sunday 06/07/09. Enter anything you shot last week or during this current week until the thread closes.

So to get things started. All I have so far is some shots from yesterday at my step son's 5Km road race. His teacher is big on getting the kids active and had a weekly exercise program (games like Basketball and Rugby) each week and finished off with this road race.

So a few from the run:
First my step son:

Next all the sneakers at the start

Finally a Hog parked to the side of the road.

Everything was shot with the FA*300mm and I was really happy with how it tracked and focused on the K10D. Short FL shots were done with the Sigma 105mm macro (the Harley) One fine and sharp lens.

The best shots (there were over 200) have been submitted to the local paper and we'll see if they publish the shots and article.

richit - nice composition with the stairs leading to the chapel and wonderful colors

jezza323 - love your bug series and would love to see more of them! stunning crops and a touch of monochrome tones really makes them appealing to me.

Looks like another stellar POTW already! Quite enjoying everyone's pics.

Not bad, we are only on Monday, and have reached 30+ posts. Should be no problem breaking 100 posts again this week.

A couple shots.

First one was when I went out for a walk yesterday, but I got rained out, so didn't get much.

It was raining again tonight, so for kicks, I took my 200mm Takumar, and hooked it to my 2x Vivitar AND my 2x Tamron. Here are 2 of the results. On tripod, through the open door. By far from great, but actually better than I expected.

Thanks for hosting Peter !

A good variety of shots in here, well done.

Andras, you're a skywalker in many ways .-)

Richit, the path to the church looks wide-anglish and it's really sucking toward the church door, very good.

Borno, nice sunrise and please tell me: Does it make sense to get the F-series 35-70 when I have the kit lens? Alternative would be F-series 35-105 or 35-135.

Dave, I was wondering about the background of the non-violence people. Christian / humanitarian / ... ?

Here's the ultimate guardians of good taste, the 'jazz police':

Always good to remember:

Went to an air show at Hill AFB on Sunday, where the Thunderbirds were interrupted by a hailstorm (video here: Hail storm during Hill AFB air show - 20 sec video on Flickr - Photo Sharing!)

All taken with the DA 18-205. I didn't think of it at the time, but I should have tried out my 500 mm mirror lens.

(click for a larger view)

1. Kids in a KC-135 cockpit. (Yes, we had them wear the same bright pink sweatshirts so they'd be easier to see if they wandered off.)

2. Propeller girls.

3. Red Baron x2 - the mountains make a nice air show background.

4. Our spot on the tarmac - with a B-52 (edit: really a C-5 Galaxy - thanks for the fact checking, guys) in the background.

5&6. And a couple of the Thunderbirds - after the hail cleared out.

I've got more posted at Flickr: Hill AFB Air Show June 2009 - a set on Flickr

All nice pics, but that's a C-5 Galaxy (or perhaps a C-17), not a B-52 BUFF (Big Ugly Fat F*er )

That's a Galaxy for sure. The C17 has large winglets on the wingtips and I don't think it's nose can be opened up that way. Below its right wing is a bomber but that's a B1B.
Good airshow report! I like the Thunderbird pair and the way the rest of the formation is also visible in the distance.
And the picture with the big plane and your family is just a great family picture with exciting background.

MacGirl-beautiful butterflies somehow I like the second one very much-good composition and sharpness.

Thanks Jim & planedriver, a Google search confirms it's a C-5. I'll change the description on my Flickr page.

Georg,
Thanks for the comment, and I don't have the f 35-70mm mine is the "a" f4 manual focus. I do have a pretty rustic copy of the F 28- 80mm f3.5- 4.5 that is pretty good too. I seem to favor lenses that go longer than the kit lens for walking around with.

i have the kit lens and the F 35-70

i find the 35-70 to be quite a nice lens, i use it a lot because at 70mm its at its shortest so is very un-obtrusive for a walk around if u want a little more reach

Wow the hits keep coming I am giving up on commenting on them all just a generic well done all.

Georg I am not 100% sure what that protest was about. There was walk involved and the crowd was rather small but enthusiastic.

Here are some more from me - click on image for larger view ...

Tomatoes ...ummmmm

Kettle Corn double ummm ... I aksed them what they did with the small pieces that fall through the screen. He said they take them to a friends farm and he uses it as chicken feed what a treat that must be for the chickens !

It is amazing what one can see for sale at various fairs and farmers markets....
