PROJECT 52-2-02 Architecture: Cityscape
Posted By: mithrandir, 07-09-2009, 11:58 AM

Our Assignment for Week 2 looks at Architecture, specifically a Cityscape.
(Pictures to be taken and posted between 20090712 and 20090719).
Rules:
1. Anyone and everyone who is interested in eligible. The goal continues to be
have fun and share comments, concepts, insights, and techniques with fellow
Pentaxians.
2. Each week will feature a Theme and Sub-concept for you to explore.
3. Post your single picture in Project 52-2 thread for the week. Explain what
motivated you to take the picture and/or how you feel it represents the weekly
theme.
4. Some post-processing is OK (adjusting white balance, exposure, color
saturation), but let's try to stay away from heavily PP'ed images here. Try to
keep the creativity to photographic techniques and the captures themselves.
5. There is one “Theme Concept” labeled “black and white,” but feel free to post
black and white, sepia, monotone, etc., for any of the other themes.
6. The picture you post should be taken during the week in which the theme is
active to be eligible for judging.
7. Any picture taken from 20090705 to listed closing date is acceptable for the
two “Seasonal” competitions – Projects 52-2-51 & 52.

Let's start this weeks Project 52

Rob, thank you again for organising this project for the second year! To prevent it from being overwhelmed by other threads and being forgotten, I will start it, with a just processed, but older film photo from the Boulevard in Scheveningen, near The Hague. Not for judging: the photo is to old, and I am supposed to be the judge for this week....

So, feel free to post your cityscapes here!

Early 19th Century Mill Town

I visited a local 19th century mill town called Ellicott City. Originally the location of the Ellicott Mills it is now an antique destination for locals and visitors alike. It also has a very old train station on the Baltimore & Ohio (B&O) train line. I treated this picture to the sepia treatment to get that old mill town grunge feel. One interesting aside: Ellicott City has more overhead lines (electric, phone, etc.) than any town I have ever visited. It is nigh impossible to get a picture on Main Street without including dozens of lines. The next time I visit, I am going to bring my EMF meter (ala Ghost Hunters) and try to get the ambient reading for the town.

To all of you planning an entry in this challenge...

Monday morning very early, I will leave home for four days. Judging this challenge has therefore to be done at Sunday evening late. But..... here in Europe we have Sunday a little earlier than some of you, as it has been for ages and ages . (Time lag between Alaska and here is 10 hours, this seem to be the max to me...). So, if you want to send in a photo for this contest, please don't wait till the very last minute, because that minute could be on Monday here......

I hope you all understand this slight mod on the time scedule....

All the best, keep on shooting!

Innercity landscape

Eager to post with time running out, I made my own interpretation of the challenge with this picture of allotmentgarden. In Dutch cities narrow strips along the railway can be rented from the railway company. People living in apartment buildings do use these strips to grow vegetables or to recreate. This with quite a lot of trains passing every hour (on this track about 10/hour).
This picture has been taken standing on the pavement along the road enclosing the strip of gardens. Apparently the owner of this lot doesn’t grow beans like many others. He or she has chosen lettuce, cabbage, flowers and left space for (grand) children to play.

Here's mine, shot in Denver yesterday. I'm out of town still (in Maine now) so this is the only way to really share a decent quality pic...

Here is my submission, but I must admit that I'm a bit disappointed. The first post says the contest closes on the 19th. It is still the 19th here. If I had known there was going to be a cut-off time I would have posted earlier. These sort of things should be spelled out in advance.

So what IS the cut off time? 12 midnight GMT? Up to the judge? What?

aaib: Nice shot, but I'm trying to figure out where you took it? Is it looking south down the Hudson?

Great shot Garth, did you use the peleng (sp?) 8mm circular fisheye? Or is that some sort of photoshop magic?
Either way a stunning result.

Thanks for the compliment. I would love the 8mm fisheye.
Image taken with my travel lens - 18-125mm Sigma EX at 18mm.
Photoshop did the rest.

NaCL...Rense did post in the other thread that he would have to judge them on Sunday evening because he was leaving town Monday morning. Typically the judges post results the next day though to allow everyone around the globe to get their pics in on Sunday.
