Posted By: ceericks, 07-20-2009, 07:18 AM

Weekly Challege #103 - "Flowers (B&W)"

Flower shots are always beautiful due to there bright vidid colors and great detail. In the recent months I have ran across a hand full of flower pics in B&W. I figured for this weeks challenge that would be the theme, Flowers in Black and White. Im looking foward to seeing what you guys come up with.

Challenge concludes midnight July 28th, next Tuesday. I will judge the photos the following day.
Have fun everyone, happy shooting!!

-----------------------------------------
The fine print....

1. Post ONE photo (max 1000x1000).
2. The photo must portray an interpretation of the theme.
3. Post your single picture in this thread, and explain what motivated you to take the picture and/or how you feel it represents the weekly theme
4. The challenge is interactive. Any response is welcome.
5. The judge will pick the WINNERS and chose 1 of them to be the judge for the next week.
6. This challenge runs for 7 days plus a day for the judge to choose the winners.
7. Any Pentax camera will do or a Samsung DSLR.
8. Pictures can be from any time frame, not just within the week of the current theme.

I don't know if leaves qualify, but I like the look of this one in B&W.

I think the black and white lend itself to spikes...or maybe I just know too many goths.

One from me. I do very little in B & W, perhaps I should get a bit more adventurous.

Arrrgggh! Ceericks, you don't make this easy do you? This is a great topic and totally unexpected. Flower photographs are about color, texture, shape, and of course light (all photographs are about light) so what do you do? You eliminate 1/3 of the equation. OK. I'll play. I've got a bunch of shots that are more about shape and texture than anything else and I chose this one: Note that my b&w conversion skills ain't the greatest to say the least. But this contest made me think. Thanks...sorta

Good topic. I have done many B & W conversions and I have many flower photos. But I have never paired them. Here then is my 1st attempt using an older flower shot of mine. I like it very much in color, but I think it turned out well as a B&W:
