Thanks seacapt (Ken) for hosting last weeks POTW thread it can be found Here

Once again same rules and really other than time frames there are no rules

1) No theme just your favorite stuff.
2) Let's keep it to about 4-6 images per post just so the thread doesn't get too big each week.
3) Any Pentax camera is fine, film, P&S, DSLR (or Samsung DSLR)
4) Date : Sunday 07/19/09 to Sunday 08/02/09. Enter anything you shot last week or during this current week until the thread closes.

The last of my Vegas shotos taken on Sunday 19th July - click on image for larger view

The stage for Le Reve at the Wynn (another Cirque water show)

A night view of Treasure Island

Yep I quit my day job and decided to open a bar in downtown Vegas

And the reason most come to Vegas visions of winning - this was sweet , our last day and we (well my wife) won a little bit of money. Enough to come home with some and that is a win

Let the posting begin

Nice Vegas shots, Dave. I hope you enjoyed the vacation.
The tall ships are always a great subject. I reall like the second shot with the guys in the rigging.

I'm posting some shots of an unknown (to me) very interesting looking bird. It resembles a Heron but is small; bigger than a Robin or Bluejay but smaller than a crow. There are a lot of these birds nesting in a stand of spruce behind my daughters house in the southern Adirondacks. Some are smaller which are probably this seasons hatchlings. My daughter thinks they might be kingfishers but this stand of trees is a 1/2 mile from the nearest pond or the river. Shot with a Sigma 70-300 yesterday and cropped with some PP also. I have a few different angles to show the different coloring and patterns.

Dave, thanks for hosting this weeks POTW. Nice shots from your Vegas adventure BTW!

@ Georg: I love your shots. The second one is just great. My wife commented "Modern Vikings", but was disappoited when I showed the left mans basketball shoes....
@ Reeftool: great heron shots. We (in Europe) have similar small Herons too. Probably somebody will come up with the right name this week....

And here some of mine. I bought me a Pentax-A 100/4 macro last week, as well as a Pentax Auto Bellows. I love the first one, but I did not have time to use the second until today. Although it was quite windy, I was able to make some half decent shots using the bellows+SMC-Takumar 35/3.5. Subject: a spider. First one made with the A 100/4 (at 1:2, since this lens doesn't magnify larger), the second one is just a crop of the first one of about 1:1, the third one is the Tak+bellows at about half extension.

PS: the spider was about 3-4 mm large
PPS: yes, I ruined its web, have to take care in the future....
PPPS: yes, there is definately room for improvement....

Thanks for the comments! And yes these sailors are truly modern men

Reeftool, great heron shots! Are the last two the same?

Rense, nice spider shots! I like the beautiful background!

Here are a few more from the Tall Ships' Race:

On the right is the Russian Sedova, biggest sail ship in the world!

This is for Rense in particular

Maybe is a British ship, maybe

Georg - glad I bring a little LV your way. I love the tall ships that must of been quite a scene.

reeftool - they kind of look like Kingfishers but I am not sure. Nice shots of whatever they are are.

Rense - thanks for the comments. Those spider shots are very good. Loe the last one.

Georg - again with the tall ships ad man they look TALL nicely done. The first one is my favorite.

Scott - you should change professions. You kids still like like giants comapred to the rest of the field. I like #3 perfect timing on #4 nice header ! Great freeze on #5 and #6, and like others have commented #7 is the winner - great timing.

Some water shots

Bad vignette in this one not sure why usually the DA* 16-50 and CPL work well in broad daylight. Oh well.

Thanks for hosting Dave

Reeftool - Dems green Herons you got, I've been trying to get close to one I've seen around the pond I go to, but I usually scare him before I even see it.

Thanks for hosting again, Dave. Looks like the trip to Vegas is over (this one, anyway) and back to local pics now for a while

Georg - those tall ships are beautiful!

Reeftool - Agreed, those are green herons. I have not seen any locally (West coast) this year and only caught one on film last year. Envious

Rense - those are nice spiders. The bellows is doing a really nice job there.

Scott - more good soccer shots, and yes, it's the goalie for my favorite too.

Tom - your herons are much more reliable than those over here - and like being pictured

Captmacq - the trains are nice - and so is the little green heron there too!

Still plenty hot here (well over 100F and worsening) so a few quick ones from down by the river.
