Picture of the Week - 08/02/2009 - 08/16/2009: Everybody join in!
Posted By: Rense, 08-09-2009, 04:15 AM

Welcome to Picture of the Week 08/02/09 - 08/16/09 #74

Another week started over here, and just to prevent that yesterdays pics become lost in the tail of last weeks POTW, here's another one, brand new, with new opportunitie .

Thanks AOski for hosting last weeks POTW, the thread can be found here.

Once again same rules and really other than time frames there are no rules

1) No theme just your favorite stuff.
2) Let's keep it to about 4-6 images per post just so the thread doesn't get too big each week.
3) Any Pentax camera is fine, film, P&S, DSLR (or Samsung DSLR)
4) Date : Sunday 08/02/09 to Sunday 08/16/09. Enter anything you shot last week or during this current week until the thread closes.

Really great shots everybody!!!

Eccs - nice, those 'boring' flower shots!
RollsUp - great shots, that kid is standing out. No need to frame her better, she framed herself
Jim - wow, those hummingbirds are very good!
Jezza - that is a great series. I especially like the two first (sea) and the last one!

Let them comming folks!

Bum weather for the Balloon Festival this weekend.

One balloon got up just after sunrise.

The wind grounded the rest.

So the muscle car show and shine got the crowd's attention.

Back with a few

Hey all-

Sorry to have been gone for so long. Things have been beyond difficult for the last 6 weeks- from a major web development project where my partner sold two weeks of buffer without telling me to my Mom having major cardiac surgery to save her life across the continent in Portland Oregon, as well as my father-in-law here in Quebec having constant surgery and suffering to save his leg from being amputated.

That all being said, I've missed the forums- as well as shooting!- haven't touched my camera except for a brief day-trip to upper Canada village and a few shots on the weekend of some flowers/weeds we picked in the back yard and shoved in a pot on the table. These three were shot with an M-50mm at around f/2.8 and f/4.

This is just a shot of a very cool giant candle votive that was on the table and I liked the juxtaposition of the colors and textures.

Anyways, managing things right now, hope to be back with a few more shots now and then!

Had a client meeting over the weekend with a couple getting marriednext year. part of the meeting involved a quick tour of the ceremony/reception location, a farm/garden/nursery way out on Long Island. I snapped a few quickies while checking the place out and speaking with the owners and their beautiful young daughter.

I've been slacking lately and not posting any photos for the week! Forgive me.

Short back story, my daughter has been taking riding lessons and it's a constant challenge for me. Dark barn with harsh contrasting light from small windows and florescent work lights too! Ouch. Anyway, each week I pick one lens to take and work with what I have. This week I picked the Tamron 70-300 hoping for outdoor arena shooting....Nope, stayed in the barn and the indoor arena. I get some keepers that aren't the sharpest nor lacking action blur but surprising at 1600 ISO not too bad.

Snapped this out the back barn door. We had really hot and humid weather this weekend and horrible air quality. Hazy paddock shot:

This wasn't the nicest of weekends, like so many this year. I almost didn't go out on the water Saturday. It was turning cloudy and was quite cool and windy. I took the kayak out anyhow and I'm glad I did. I spent a couple of hours playing hide and seek with a Blue Heron. Often they will just fly off but this one seemed more intent on staying on that section of the creek and move to another section nearby and try to hide in the grass. The water levels had dropped enough so I was somewhat hidden also and I was able to get in real close. The last shot was when he stuck his head out of the grass about 20 ft away.

What a wonderfull series of photos the first two days of this week!

Jim - Great car and balloon shots. The first one is very appealing....
Tom - What a nice heron photos. I like the one with the gulls and the sunrise!
Virgil - It sounds like rough times for you and your loved ones, I am sorry to hear that. Hope your familly will recover, and you will find more time and rest. My thoughts are with you and your familly. And, although it seems to be less important right now, I just love your shots.
Alan - Great, I like the PP in the second one, and the portrait in the last. It has a really shallow DOF, but I like it, yes, I like it.
MacGirl - Good to have you back here, and even more so when you bring such fine shots! The "talking strategy" has humor, and has some tenderness too. Well done!
Reeftool - Where did you buy that birdhead? Great shots. Took you some time, but it was more than worth the effort!!

Thank you eccs! No, it's a crop of a photo made with the Pentax-A 100mm f/4.0. It's made in bright sunlight, so the use of flash was unnescessary.

I know it's not the sharpest but this was an opportunistic shot taken hand-held with a DA 70mm and not a macro lens. Colours are nice, though. Exif data is here. It's a Large White butterfly, Pieris brassicae.
