Another Real Aussie!!

No not my backyard, but actually, the Botanic Gardens where I work.
It borders onto a large conserved bush area, so the animals, reptiles etc just walk in at their leisure.
Be assured, they are all from the wild. We had a few Koala Bears a while back they move about a lot, so haven't seen any for some time.

I only had a P&S in my pocket when I saw this GOANNA, only this morning.
He was about 6ft to 7ft long. Doesn't pay to get to close to one that size.

Andras - a good opening in the BW world - really like the look of #1.

OldSchool - nice series is that Merlin ? I love that era some really nice pics. Indeed nice timing on the blood spitting.

Bruce - now that's a HUGE mouse as Sylvester the cat woudl say suffering succotash

Song_hm - very cool series what kind of height were these guys jumping ? The takeoff seems good - the landing appears a little rough

Bruce - wow that must of been a site - I totaly agree and if I ever saw a 6 - 7 foot lizzard I would walk if not run in the other direction.

Got a million shots of my beedfeeder lately here are a few ..

These guys are really small. I had the tripod and Bigma set up with cable release and mutltiple shots to avoid them scattering when I was actually there.

Kevin and Dave, I'm not sure what these birds are but have a feeling they are in the Ibis family. I've been checking websites this morning to see if I can find out which Ibis they are. Checking wikipedia I found what it is. It's a White Ibis. I think the brown one must be a juvenile, but can't confirm that yet.

Edit: I was right, the brown one is a juvenile. Found the description from here.

That darn Heron is laughing at me!

I got out in the kayak Saturday to play hide and seek with the Herons again. It seemed that every time I got in close enough to get some shots he would fly off a few yards to another spot. Trouble is, this was at the inlet to a lake and is a very marshy area with a maze of channels that have been made through years of silt buildup with a little help from beavers so that short hop he made meant a 1/2 hour paddle for me and hoping I was in the right channel. He seemed to be enjoying this.

And now for something completely different. Three abstracts for this week.

Lights at the local community college

Defraction of light off a DVD shot with Pentax-A 50mm f/2.0 and extension tubes

Nice looking flowers Dave. Is that first one Lantana? Sure looks like it.

Excellent heron capture there Tom.

Nice ones, Frank. I like the lights one. So, that's what a eucalyptus tree looks like. On the second one, I tried that too but without the extension tubes. Was okay but nothing as good as yours.

They broke the 7 feet record, the new height to beat is 8.5 feet. These guys were amazing, they were doing flips and tumbles in the air, then lands on their pogo most of the time. I have some shots of these, but I prefer the rough landing pix.

Thanks, photolady for looking into the bird ID. I looked them up afterwards (we only have the White-faced ibis here on the Western side) to see more once I saw your post.

Very nice pictures all.

I love that first landscape, Jeff.

Here are a few more from my back yard from today. Goldfinches attacking the thistle seed sock:

I've sat for ages trying to catch the darned humming birds. Predictably, when set up in MF to shoot the finches, this one appears - no time for accurate focusing, no flash attached - then he's off again
