Posted By: daacon, 09-06-2009, 06:40 AM

Welcome to Picture of the Week #78 08/30/2009 - 09/13/2009

I am not sure if Frank asked anyone or not if so they can certainly take over next week - I am up, it's raining outside so what the heck !

Thanks Frank (xs400) for hosting last weeks POTW thread it can be found Here

Once again same rules and really other than time frames there are no rules

1) No theme just your favorite stuff.
2) Let's keep it to about 4-6 images per post just so the thread doesn't get too big each week.
3) Any Pentax camera is fine, film, P&S, DSLR (or Samsung DSLR)
4) Date : Sunday 08/30/2009 to Sunday - Sunday 09/13/2009. Enter anything you shot last week or during this current week until the thread closes.

Previous hosts: (each one is a hotlink to that POTW thread to look past at the previous 77 weeks Thanks to Peter who started the links it was a lot of editing )

seacapt - I like the boat in the sun nicely done. Hey youa re shooting Pentax weather sealed ! I hear ya though a few weeks ago here it rained for 4 or 5 days straight most depressing.

Scott - you got some budding photographers there - some nice shots .

Andras - yeah that is an impressive plane no doubt thanks. Back to the basics and boats well done. Like the last one best.

Back to the mountains - here are some near and far examples ..

Click on image for larger view

Notice the ice on the mountain (white spot on mountain almost middle of the pic)

Well here it is via a 500mm look

Spiral Mountain got its name as the train litterally goes through the mountain. If you look close you can see the entry and exit points. (follow the little path in the trees)

And here is 500mm look at one of those points.

Rained all day . Kids off from school . Wife at work. Let's go to the Aquarium!
This was actually a new photo experience for me with tough light , moving critters , crowds and difficult focus. I should have taken a faster lens with closer focus and maybe AF (it was hard to see and manual focus with the available light).
It was a learning experience and any suggestions would be welcome. These are right out of the camera just resized

My least and most favorite fish.
First - Lion Fish , these are non indiginous decendants of released aquarium pets. They eat everything and have no natural enemy here. They are breeding like rabbits and becoming a serious problem to our marine eco system. Some of the local dive clubs hold spearfishing rodeo's targetting these critters and there is a private organization offering a bounty for them.
Next- we have the noble Snook which is a challenge to catch especially here because we are theoretically too far North for them to live and their numbers are very few. When I lived in Fla. where these were plentiful we used to go out at all hours of the night usually in adverse conditions just to catch one.

At first I thought this was a wall. Then I saw the person in the lower right corner. What a fun perspective. I need to give this style a try sometime soon.

Fun Hair Day!:
My 13 yr old would never let me take a picture like that any more.

My days are numbered! Notice no flash and she's usually not aware that the camera is pointing toward in her direction? Stealth angles and all....
