Picture Of the Week #80 - 09.13.09 to 09.27.09

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A warm welcome to all members to Picture of the Week #80.
The last POTW, hosted by Bruce, has been a brilliant success, with many top shots posted.
To all members out there : Dont be shy, put up one or more of your photos. It is not a competition, and there certainly wont be any criticism. Just interest in what you have been clicking. So lets see some new Pentaxians getting involved as well.
If you haven't posted photos before and aren't too sure how, just give as a query and you will find plenty of help from some very friendly people.

Once again same rules and really other than time frames there are no rules

1) No theme just your favorite stuff.
2) Let's keep it to about 4-6 images per post just so the thread doesn't get too big each week.
3) Any Pentax camera is fine, film, P&S, DSLR (or Samsung DSLR)
4) Date : Sunday 09/13/2009 to Sunday - Sunday 09/27/2009. Enter anything you shot last week or during this current week until the thread closes.

Previous hosts: (each one is a hotlink to that POTW thread to look past at the previous weeks Thanks to Peter who started the links it was a lot of editing )

No those are gliders flown by girlies like her for instance:

Gliders are launched by either aerotow or by winch-in this case by winch:

I have recently come across these owls in several zoos, I think they are so cool but since they are nocturnal the lighting is always horrendous or just plain non existing and often flash not not allowed either. and this one was behind glass to boot. I had to murder the pic with noise reduction. would have loved to get some better shots of them cause they were posing their ass off. maybe ill go back when there is less people and sneak in a flash.

I had the pleasure of attending the weekly contra dance at the Fulton Community Center in Portland. While I stayed off the dance floor (too clumsy and too self-conscious), I greatly enjoyed the music and watching the people have a good time. The dancers are hard to photograph, but the musicians easy!

I think they call this step a "swing"

Missed the focus on the last one, but what the hey...

(Can't see too many reasons to complain about the K10D high ISO performance...)

Three photographs of the extraordinary dust storm we are experiencing today.
I have never witnessed anything like it in my 60+ years. But, that's Australia all over.
I posted some as well in "Post Yours Photos".

These shots are totally unaltered except for resizing.

Now : if I could just find some clean air to breath. As I suffer with sinusitis, this is rather horrendous.

I have to say, "well done" to all who have posted shots this week.
The standard of shots seems to go from strength to strength, and each and every Poster is to be congratulated.

Andras - ahh better scale they looked like models in the previous one. Always wanted to take a ride in a glider very cool.

And - great shot of the owl - a nice pose.

stevebrot - I like the blur motion and I am like You can't sign and no rhythm The fiddler shots are very well done.

Andras - haha nice series and at that age nothing is serious (oh how I long for that carefree feeling ....)

Bruce - that is nasty stuff man you guys are taking a beating in 2009 with the fires and now the dust storms. Take care hope it ends soon, and nice shots. Almost like you had some sort of red filter on there.

Tom - nice golden sky against the water - too bad you could not convicne one of your Herons to fly into the shot for ya.

xjjohonno - Bats ...ahhh I had to catch one once in someone's house. I was like John Candy and Dan Aykroyd in the Great Outdoors Nice shots.

On the way to Torrey , Jim and I stopped at few times to take some shots of scenery on the way.

Click on image for larger view

This was an area where there was a fire , the Junnipers were all burnt, the rocks scourched , yet new growth on the top.

Red fire ant hill - these buggers are small but fiesty.

A little watering hole along the way.

Taken with Bigma fully extended - a house overlooking the valley. The driveway to this place had several switchback turns in it
