PROJECT 52-2-13 Exposure: Multiple
Posted By: mithrandir, 09-23-2009, 01:55 PM

Our Assignment for Week 13 is to produce a multiple exposure image.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In photography, a multiple exposure is when two or more individual exposures are made to create a single photograph. The exposure values may, or may not be identical to each other.

Your choice as to whether you take the same scene multiple times (as for example to soften the effects of flowing water) or create a composition using different scenes skillfully merged to create the final picture. No PP merging on this one. Do the multiple exposure in camera.

(Pictures for week 13 competition to be taken and posted between 20090927and 20091004).

NOTE: We have two Seasonal competitions planned for the last two weeks of year two. You may take pictures for these anytime between 20090705 and the posting dates of 20100704 or 20100711. This way you can include your favorite holiday or season whenever it occurs during the year.

Rules:
1. Anyone and everyone who is interested in eligible. The goal continues to be
have fun and share comments, concepts, insights, and techniques with fellow
Pentaxians.
2. Each week will feature a Theme and Sub-concept for you to explore.
3. Post your single picture in Project 52-2 thread for the week. Explain what
motivated you to take the picture and/or how you feel it represents the weekly
theme.
4. Some post-processing is OK (adjusting white balance, exposure, color
saturation), but let's try to stay away from heavily PP'ed images here. Try to
keep the creativity to photographic techniques and the captures themselves.
5. There is one “Theme Concept” labeled “black and white,” but feel free to post
black and white, sepia, monotone, etc., for any of the other themes.
6. The picture you post should be taken during the week in which the theme is
active to be eligible for judging.
7. Any picture taken from 20090705 to listed closing date is acceptable for the
two “Seasonal” competitions – Projects 52-2-51 & 52.

This one is going to stretch you like a canvas on a frame.

I'm just realizing that i have no idea how to do this in camera. There is a way to shoot multiple exposures and have them merge into one image in camera, correct? Can somebody help me out?

I am not sure about the multiple exposure feature on the K100DS. I don't believe it was available on the K100D. Maybe someone else can confirm?

I looked through my K100D Super manual and did not see anything about multiple exposures. With that in mind, are there any alternative options for folks who cant merge photos on camera?

Course Change Amidstream

Not wanting to exclude anyone from Project 52-2-13 Exposure: Multiple, I would suggest that we allow:
1. Pictures done multiple exposure in camera.
2. Pictures (low light) done by the ghetto method of a long timed exposure (keeping the lens open and creating multiple exposures by putting a piece of cloth over the lens periodically (or some variation).
3. Taking multiple exposures and combining them in PostProcessing software but steering away from HDR.

This should allow everyone to participate. Let me know if there are any objections to the change.

Well, I guess somebody has to break the ice. Now please note, this my first ever attempt at multi exposure, and I added a bit of artistic flare to it as well
The double exposure was done with camera (k20d), not PP. Turned out easier to program than I expected. Dont know about the results though.

Not trying to state the obvious but..... if our DSLR's can't do multiple exposures might be a great time to whip out and dust off the film body.
