Picture Of the Week #81 - 9/20/09 - 10/04/09

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A warm welcome to all members to Picture of the Week #81. The last POTW, hosted by Borno, has been a brilliant success, with many top shots posted.

To all members out there : Dont be shy, put up one or more of your photos. It is not a competition, and there certainly wont be any criticism. Just interest in what you have been clicking. So lets see some new Pentaxians getting involved as well.
If you haven't posted photos before and aren't too sure how, just give as a query and you will find plenty of help from some very friendly people.

Once again same rules and really other than time frames there are no rules

1) No theme just your favorite stuff.
2) Let's keep it to about 4-6 images per post just so the thread doesn't get too big each week.
3) Any Pentax camera is fine, film, P&S, DSLR (or Samsung DSLR)
4) Date : Sunday 09/13/2009 to Sunday - Sunday 09/27/2009. Enter anything you shot last week or during this current week until the thread closes.

Previous hosts: (each one is a hotlink to that POTW thread to look past at the previous weeks Thanks to Peter who started the links it was a lot of editing )

Adirondack Balloon Festival

I haven't shot much or posted in a couple of weeks. This weekend was the annual Adirondack Balloon Festival, right in my backyard almost with no excuses not to get out and shoot. I think every other camera owner had the same idea because I have never seen so many DSLR's in one place ever. Hot air balloons are as big a photographer magnet as a naked supermodels convention!

Friday afternoon was sunny but windy but the wind died down enough to launch late in the day. Saturday morning was freezing cold, upper 20's around sunrise. A dense fog rolled in soon after sunrise which kind of limited the flights. About 50 balloons launched but most stayed tethered to the ground with long ropes and all but a couple stayed on the airport grounds. On friday I used just about every lens in my bag but the saturday morning fog limited me to the DA10-17 and 18-55. I'll post a few here as I have been going through them and all my keepers so far are on my Picasa site.

@dave - love the sunrises; that's way too early to be at work though!
@oldschool - love the bridge; looks like a great photo op from any angle
@reeftool - the last shot with the balloons in the mist is my favorite

Probably could stand a crop but I went ahead and uploaded; squeezing as much subject isolation as I could manage with the DA 70mm.

Welcome to the POTW PhotoMad. Very nice shots and I hope you post lots from your region.

Just one from me so far this week. I have more to process but this is from a dealer dinner show I attended. Tough shot to get. No tripod, K10D at ISO 1250 (as High as I dare push it) and hand held. This is pretty much exposed as I saw it. For some reason I'm really happy with this shot. I see Batman there for some reason.

@photomad Cool elephant shot!
@peter nice framing of the pic; I've never tried about ISO800 on my K20D

Just a random handful again. My attempt at a closeup shot with the DA21mm (top), some berry type of fruit (left), playing with a home-made flash diffuser (right), F1.2 aperture-envy with my 50mm F1.4 (bottom)

The Auto-Rikenon 50/1.7 is the unsung hero of my camera bag. I tend to forget what a nice little lens this is until I pull it out for a little exercise.

Navaho Carved Pot

Thanks Jim, the kit 55-200mm lens is pretty damned sharp and I think possibly one of the best kit lenses out there.

Here's a couple more from my walk in NYC last Sunday....

An oval shaped room in the Smithstonian American Indian museum. It kind of looks like a fish eye......

Here's hoping the bull market comes back......
