Weekly Challenge #114 – Nature vs. Culture

Okay, here's the new Weekly Challenge. One of the things that make me wonder is the balance between Nature and Culture. How does nature withstand culture, how has culture to adapt to nature? Where do we find Nature in a Cultural setting, and where in Nature is Culture to be found?

What I would like to see in the photos of this week is something of this balance. It's probably not the easiest challenge, but I am anxious to see what you guys and galls make of it!

The challenge will close at Midnight (GMT) on October 23 and winners will be announced sometime on Saturday the 24th .

The fine print....

1. Post ONE photo (max 1000x1000).
2. The photo must portray an interpretation of the theme.
3. Post your single picture in this thread, and explain what motivated you to take the picture and/or how you feel it represents the weekly theme
4. The challenge is interactive. Any response is welcome.
5. The judge will pick the WINNERS and chose 1 of them to be the judge for the next week.
6. This challenge runs for 7 days plus a day for the judge to choose the winners.
7. Any Pentax camera will do or a Samsung DSLR.
8. Pictures can be from any time frame, not just within the week of the current theme.

In the stark and cruel world of Man (Culture), the scales are tipped against Nature who is fighting a losing battle daily.

This is a coyote I found dead on the road on my way to work. Most likely displaced from its natural habitat in the lower mountains due to non-stop, ongoing development by Man.

I was inside a man-made bird nest with artificial eggs (they even have cracks on them). Interestingly lodged among the twigs is a real bird nest encased in a plastic box. Sort of juxtaposition of irony.

This is a shot of Palmer Falls on the Hudson River in Corinth, NY, my hometown these days. I always wonder what this must have looked like before hydroelectric dams and paper mills.

Nothing fancy here, just a nice colorful wild tree, and a sculpted hedge & lamp post along a sidewalk (at an interstate highway rest area). The photo's a bit dark and gloomy, but then so was the weather!
