Weekly Challenge #117 - The Tree
Posted By: mel, 11-13-2009, 12:57 PM

Weekly Challenge #117 – The Tree - a unique view

The challenge explained:
I live in a heavily wooded area and am surrounded by trees. Finding new ways to shoot the same tree again and again can be difficult. For this challenge lets see some new and interesting ways of photographing a tree. It can be more than one tree but I'm looking for individual trees, rather than and entire forest full of them. The uniqueness can be perspective, exposure, post-processing, composition, or anything else that makes it a unique view of a tree (or a few trees).

(And I can't promise as in-depth of judging as Keitha gave us)

Challenge Starts:
Now!

Challenge Ends:
Saturday, Nov. 21st @ 11:59pm EST

Results:
Sunday, Nov. 22nd (I hope)

The fine print....
1. Post ONE photo (max 1000x1000).
2. The photo must portray an interpretation of the theme.
3. Post your single picture in this thread, and explain what motivated you to take the picture and/or how you feel it represents the weekly theme
4. The challenge is interactive. Any response is welcome.
5. The judge will pick the WINNERS and chose 1 of them to be the judge for the next week.
6. This challenge runs for 7 days plus a day for the judge to choose the winners.
7. Any Pentax camera will do or a Samsung DSLR.
8. Pictures can be from any time frame, not just within the week of the current theme.

I live in a wooded area of the Adirondacks so there is probably a tree in almost every outside shot I have. This one is a reflection shot I got on a calm day paddling on the lake.

Fallen Monarch - Butt end of the fallen Giant Sequoia in Mariposa Grove, Yosemite.
This tree came down hundreds of years ago but the tannic acid in the wood suppresses bacteria and fungus.

Admittedly this is not as spectacular as earlier, very admirable photos posted in this thread. But I hope you enjoy the texture and pattern.

Dancing Tree

Oh, what the heck: here's one I took with the Tamron 18-250mm back when I was just getting started. It's cropped to a 3MP snippet but I've always kinda liked it.

Congratulations to all entries, some really great shots and original concepts of shooting a tree. All are to be commended.
Best of luck with the judging, it should be an interesting exercise.
