Weekly Challenge #121 - Negative Space

The challenge explained:
Negative space is all the space inside the picture that is not the subject. It is the space between an object, around an object, but is not part of the actual object itself. Accentuate your subject by using empty space. To do that, the background should be monotonous and boring yet complement the subject.
For some examples see > Flickr: The Negative Space Pool

Be creative. Good luck and have fun!!!

Challenge Starts:
Now!

Challenge Ends:
Wednesday, Dec. 30, 09 @ 1159PM EST

Results:
Thursday, Dec. 31, 09

The fine print....
1. Post ONE photo (max 1000x1000).
2. The photo must portray an interpretation of the theme.
3. Post your single picture in this thread, and explain what motivated you to take the picture and/or how you feel it represents the weekly theme
4. The challenge is interactive. Any response is welcome.
5. The judge will pick the WINNERS and chose 1 of them to be the judge for the next week.
6. This challenge runs for 7 days plus a day for the judge to choose the winners.

I'll go first I guess.
Not as negative as a lot I have but I like the shot. And the main form is well isolated.

DS, Tamron 28-75mm @75mm, f4.0 @1/90sec.

I had to dig deep into my files to find anything worth entering. I may need to explore this genre a bit more in the future.

Hope and Warning

The red light alerts aircrafts' pilots to the steeple's presence.
On the last of three cold, early mornings when I captured images, I returned with this.

Walked past this earlier in the daylight and it was interesting, when I came by a couple hours later it looked pretty cool. Makes you think, how tall are the buidings, what's in them, where are these people going?

I was drawn to the curled weed stalks and their burden of snow in the stark setting on the bleak zero-degree day, and as I was composing, the sun tried to struggle through the clouds, making some of the snowflakes sparkle. The negative space seems to mimic the austerity of deep winter.
