Weekly Challenge #124 - Melancholy

The challenge explained:

It's this time of year, when the days are short and the weather is often grey, I always have melancholy feelings. I know I am not the only one; lots of people suffer from a winter depression.
Instead of thinking of spring and summer, I want you to show me pictures that emphasize my melancholy feelings. So this week it’s al about capturing this specific mood!

It can be anything: a person, a landscape, an object, it doesn’t matter as long as it capturing the melancholy feeling! Be creative. Good luck and have fun!!!

A quote from Peter is worth repeating...
Something I feel is important with these challenges. Submit your photos, it's a chance to learn and expand everyone's viewpoint.
You might not think yours is a winner but that's not really the point. We all enjoy seeing a different perspective and learn from each other. Have fun and post your shot!

To emphasize his words:
I bought my camera (it's my first dslr) in December and it was the first time I joined the weekly challenge ..... and somehow I won......so you never know

Challenge Starts:
On your mark, get set, SHOOT!!! (and submit)

Challenge Ends:
Saturday, February 6, 2010 @ 1159PM EST

This was taken of my friend as a test shoot for an article I did for a magazine a little while ago now. Its not technically the most perfect image, but I caught her off guard in some really nice light and I love the feeling this image evokes with me....she looks just so relaxed....

I made it my goal to shoot my shots for the contest during the actual timeframe. Taken today during the east coast snowpockalipse. A single rose still hanging on the bush in our yard.

I beg to differ. According to the Washington Post, the December storm was "snowpocolypse." They're referring to this one as "snowmageddon."

Mr. Obama was also talking today about Snowmageddon etcetera.
It's really bad out there isn't it?
Good luck to all of you in that area.

This is a scene we see every fall. It always brings on a bit of a melancholy mood. The cold dark days of winter are soon to come.

Well, I am *so* happy I don't have to judge this one. The entries are too diverse, the interpretation of the theme too subjective..... Good luck Iris !

This was taken during the correct time frame, but couldn't get it uploaded til today. If it doesn't qualify that's OK, but I find that dirty melting snow on a rainy day just gives me the blahs. Taken while waiting at a light on a cold, drizzly day. I thought the rain on the window blurring things really epitomized the feeling.
