Weekly Challenge #124 - Melancholy

The challenge explained:

It's this time of year, when the days are short and the weather is often grey, I always have melancholy feelings. I know I am not the only one; lots of people suffer from a winter depression.
Instead of thinking of spring and summer, I want you to show me pictures that emphasize my melancholy feelings. So this week it’s al about capturing this specific mood!

It can be anything: a person, a landscape, an object, it doesn’t matter as long as it capturing the melancholy feeling! Be creative. Good luck and have fun!!!

A quote from Peter is worth repeating...
Something I feel is important with these challenges. Submit your photos, it's a chance to learn and expand everyone's viewpoint.
You might not think yours is a winner but that's not really the point. We all enjoy seeing a different perspective and learn from each other. Have fun and post your shot!

To emphasize his words:
I bought my camera (it's my first dslr) in December and it was the first time I joined the weekly challenge ..... and somehow I won......so you never know

Challenge Starts:
On your mark, get set, SHOOT!!! (and submit)

Challenge Ends:
Saturday, February 6, 2010 @ 1159PM EST

Very nice subject Iris, a hard one to judge, because these pictures have a very personal touch for everyone, I guess.
This little angel stands on a grave of a very young child.

Up here the weather got real sunny today, the rains (more like floods) got turned off this week, so no easy melancholic landscapes. Had to work on it a bit

Place is called "The goat trail"

Dug deep into my archives for this one. It was either this or one of my "lonely benches" shots, but I like the ice, dead leaves and sweet gum seed husk. Taken with the DS and DA 50-200 f4.5 @ 350.

Beautiful pictures you all post!

Melancholy is what I feel when I see this little Shetland pony,
standing with his head down most of the time on the children's farm.

Stormy sky, grey waters and a holed, unfloatable boat adds up to melancholy!

This picture suggests to me that this alpha-male is finding his responsibilities just too much....

Wonderful pictures everyone! Interesting theme.

atupdate, it gave me a tear-dropping feeling.. Beautiful, horrible.
fractal, wonderful capture!
K McCall, I'm a fan of high contrast b/w! Great one.

My contribution, I found the theme a bit hard.. the few melancholy pictures I have are probably only giving the right feel and meaning to me.

But this one has a certain general feeling and as I'm practicing all sorts of mountainbiking, aswell as biking 8km to work .. snow is a big downside ^^
