PROJECT 52-2-31 Perspective: Panning
Posted By: mithrandir, 02-03-2010, 07:31 PM

For Week 31 we will continue working with perspectives. This week we will incorporate movement instead of steadiness in our techniques, and hopefully, we will be better for it.

Darren Rouse has a good article on the technique we are developing:
Mastering Panning – Photographing Moving Subjects

(Pictures for the week 31 competition are to be taken and posted between 20100207 and 20100214).

NOTE: We have two Seasonal competitions planned for the last two weeks of year two. You may take pictures for these anytime between 20090705 and the posting dates of 20100704 or 20100711. This way you can include your favorite holiday or season whenever it occurs during the year.

Rules:
1. Anyone and everyone who is interested in eligible. The goal continues to be
have fun and share comments, concepts, insights, and techniques with fellow
Pentaxians.
2. Each week will feature a Theme and Sub-concept for you to explore.
3. Post your single picture in Project 52-2 thread for the week. Explain what
motivated you to take the picture and/or how you feel it represents the weekly
theme.
4. Some post-processing is OK (adjusting white balance, exposure, color
saturation), but let's try to stay away from heavily PP'ed images here. Try to
keep the creativity to photographic techniques and the captures themselves.
5. Since this project is about technique, and not camera, shots taken by nonPentax cameras are allowed. Cameras can be SLRs, DSLRs, Point & Shoot and Medium Format.
6. There is one “Theme Concept” labeled “black and white,” but feel free to post
black and white, sepia, monotone, etc., for any of the other themes.
7. The picture you post should be taken during the week in which the theme is active to be eligible for judging.
8. Any picture taken from 20090705 to listed closing date is acceptable for the
two “Seasonal” competitions – Projects 52-2-51 & 52.

Good start Rense. For myself, unless the weather changes, I may have to use snowflakes as my targets for the panning exercise. We had 34 inches on the ground and now wave two is supposed to be 18 to 24 inches more of the white stuff.

Thank you Rob. You could build yourself a pendula and practice with that.....
Hope it won't get too bad there with you!

No jokes here Mith. 50 or so inches here in the past 5 days. More expected Monday and Tuesday...phew.

Apologies for not getting the results for last week's theme up yet. Been shoveling like mad the past two days. I have my notes from judging them at work so I will post the results tomorrow...guaranteed. Sorry!

Nice shot Rense!!!

I tried some cars and cyclists, but after seeing Rense's entry I wanted something different!
This is my way of bringing some colour to you all and showing that you can also participate when you are not able to go outside!

Skating

I was hoping this would turn out a bit better, but should have been using an AF lens. As it was, with the low lighting I was at F1.8, ISO 640. Tried to have the subject hit a pre-focus spot but most of the attempts still came out a bit blurred. Sorry.

I shot panning photos of cars (boring), and no one is biking in the dreary winter weather but me. Tried panning bubbles on the river (a disaster), and birds flitting round the feeders (impossible). But THANKS TO IRIS for inspiration, I turned indoors. This was the best I could do, dusting the books and DVDs. Fitting, since I also found that dust in the camera showed on the photos (grrrr... I had just cleaned the sensor, too!).

Some brilliant applications of the current weeks project. Gives me something to do between my 3 hour bouts of shovelling the driveway. I still can't get out to the street.

Would you like us to ship you a pair of snowshoes, or a St. Bernard with a flask?
