Picture of the Week 104: February 28 to March 14, 2010
Posted By: irishwhite, 03-06-2010, 08:52 PM

Hey all, we're now on the 104th edition of the POTW!

Tamia, our previous host, asked that I host this week's PoTW and I hope that this week will live up to the billing of all the previous weeks. I'm posting this a little early simply because I will most likely be away from my computer during the day tomorrow! I've got a bit of a drive to go pick up some new (old) Pentax film gear.

Our participation within this forum, catering to the Pentax community, is what really drives the whole site. Without us, there would be no site and as such this thread each week is dedicated to us. The knowledge I've gained since becoming an active member of the forums is something that cannot easily be quantified, but I assure you it is more than I had realized I'd gain. Here's my chance to say a special THANK YOU! to all of the members and especially the moderators and admins who keep this site going.

This next part is a quote from Tamia's into to the post last week, as I don't think I could say it better myself!

QuoteQuote:
I extend a particular welcome to everyone who's new to the Pentax forum. You'll find a friendly bunch here, folks who are always willing to extend a hand and offer encouragement. So don't be shy about sending in a few of your pictures. We share a common interest after all.
Feel free to post your photos from this coming week, as well as this last week!

Again same rules and really other than time frames, there are no rules:

1) No theme, just post your favorite pix.

2) Let's keep it to about 4-6 images per post just so the thread doesn't get too big each week.

3) Any Pentax camera or Samsug DSLR (I'm a Sammy DSLR owner, so don't be shy!) is fine, whether it's film, P&S, or DSLR

4) Date: Sunday February 28, 2010 to Sunday March 14, 2010. Enter anything you shot last week or during this current week until the thread closes.

5) The current host will appoint the new host as an invitation via PM. If possible, the new thread will be linked to the previous one and the new thread will start between 12:00EST and 5PM EST on the Sunday. If the thread doesn't start, please contact Peter Zack, Moderator via PM.

Thanks for hosting, Irishwhite. Great intro!

Tom, nice capture of the deer. Looks almost as if they're on a frozen pond, but I assume they're in a field.
Thanks Tamia, it's snow, we're thawing out, nice shots of water and that has to be a happy cardinal with all those seeds!

Frank, a lot great shots this week, they are definitely giving me spring fever.

Bumbibop, enjoying those Samyang shots, looks fun!

xjjohnno, The rains not slowing you down, good creative stuff!

I've got to go to bed to get up for work or I'd have more comments, they're all good so far.

I'm sorry, i'm a bad host this week. I've apparently contracted pink eye from my boss who just had to come into work when he got it. Thanks boss!

Shot through double-pane insulated glass giving the flower a nice 'soft focus' touch to the picture.

Jezza, terrific abstract.

Tom, you're right. The cardinal was very chuffed to have so many seeds to choose from, and to have no blue jays chasing him away.

Tpeace, fabulous capture! What did you do there, touch a hot match to a water balloon?

Scott, I hope that pink-eye clears up soon -- no fun whatsoever. I like your beech leaves photo.

Jeff, beautiful bloom, the soft focus "window effect" is a success. Charming young chap, obviously a happy guy.

Iris, looks as if spring is breaking out there in the Netherlands, and the horses appear contented. Seems as if the wind is blowing pretty hard in your second photo.

James, welcome to the forum. Sure am glad your gear wasn't damaged in that fall. Great photos. What lens did you use for the bird photos?

It was way too nice to sit inside this past week. Spring is on the way! I just had to get out for a hike. A few shots from the day.One of the more interesting things I came across a dead tree that had blown over and and had several large stones lifted out of the ground still stuck to the roots. The others from throughout the hike and I made it back to the road just as the sun was going down to get the power lines shot.

Tamia, Thanks for the comments. I'm glad nothing broke too. I used my Sigma 50-500mm for the birds and a DA10-17 Fisheye for the train and trees.

Thanks for the info, James. That Sigma looks like a winner.

Photolady, I love your peek-a-boo squirrel -- brilliant. Captures his nature wonderfully. The red-headed (?) woodpecker is lovely as-is, to my tastes.

Reeftool, that's quite a varied collection of rocks in the roots of that tree. Isn't it grand to have spring coming at last?
