Picture of the Week 104: February 28 to March 14, 2010
Posted By: irishwhite, 03-06-2010, 08:52 PM

Hey all, we're now on the 104th edition of the POTW!

Tamia, our previous host, asked that I host this week's PoTW and I hope that this week will live up to the billing of all the previous weeks. I'm posting this a little early simply because I will most likely be away from my computer during the day tomorrow! I've got a bit of a drive to go pick up some new (old) Pentax film gear.

Our participation within this forum, catering to the Pentax community, is what really drives the whole site. Without us, there would be no site and as such this thread each week is dedicated to us. The knowledge I've gained since becoming an active member of the forums is something that cannot easily be quantified, but I assure you it is more than I had realized I'd gain. Here's my chance to say a special THANK YOU! to all of the members and especially the moderators and admins who keep this site going.

This next part is a quote from Tamia's into to the post last week, as I don't think I could say it better myself!

I extend a particular welcome to everyone who's new to the Pentax forum. You'll find a friendly bunch here, folks who are always willing to extend a hand and offer encouragement. So don't be shy about sending in a few of your pictures. We share a common interest after all.
Feel free to post your photos from this coming week, as well as this last week!

Again same rules and really other than time frames, there are no rules:

1) No theme, just post your favorite pix.

2) Let's keep it to about 4-6 images per post just so the thread doesn't get too big each week.

3) Any Pentax camera or Samsug DSLR (I'm a Sammy DSLR owner, so don't be shy!) is fine, whether it's film, P&S, or DSLR

4) Date: Sunday February 28, 2010 to Sunday March 14, 2010. Enter anything you shot last week or during this current week until the thread closes.

5) The current host will appoint the new host as an invitation via PM. If possible, the new thread will be linked to the previous one and the new thread will start between 12:00EST and 5PM EST on the Sunday. If the thread doesn't start, please contact Peter Zack, Moderator via PM.

Previous hosts: Each one is a hotlink to that POTW thread to look past at the previous 103 weeks. 1 Peter Zack, 2Eaglerapids 3 rmtagg, 4 Peter Zack, 5 daacon, 6 Bramela, 7 mtnbearhug, 8 dantuyhoa, 9 gawan,10 roentarre, 11 daacon, 12 Kris, 13 mtnbearhug, 14 SCGushue, 15 daacon, 16 maxwell1295, 17 dantuyhoa, 18 daacon, 19 maxwell1295 19(2) daacon, 20 Bramela, 21 Syb, 22 maxwell1295, 23 maxwell1295, 24 dantuyhoa, 25 Gawan, 26 Peter Zack, 27 borno, 28 daacon, 29 gawan, 30 Damn Brit, 31 maxwell1295 32 maxwell1295 , 33 dantuyhoa, 34 daacon, 35 Peter Zack, 36 Damn Brit, 37 Borno, 38 Kevint, 39 Peter Zack, 40 Timbo13, 41 daacon, 42 daacon, 43 gawan, 44 dantuyhoa, 45 daacon, 46 Rense, 47 daacon, 48 Rense, 49 borno, 50 Rense, 51 daacon, 52 Peter Zack, 53 Peter Zack, 54 dadipentax, 55 David Whiteley, 56 planedriver, 57 daacon,58 Bramela, 59 daacon, 60 gawan, 61 virgilr, 62 daacon, 63 RickL, 64 Peter Zack, 65 Peter Zack, 66 Causey 67 daacon, 68 Bramela, 69 georgeweb, 70 daacon, 71 seacapt, 72 daacon, 73 AOski, 74 Rense 75 eccs19, 76 daacon, 77 xs400, 78 daacon, 79 Bramela, 80 borno, 81 legacyb4, 82 daacon, 83 gawan, 84 Rense, 85 Peter Zack, 86 davef, 87 davef, 88 xjjohnno 89 Bramela , 90 Peter Zack, 91 daacon, 92 stevebrot ,93 reeftool, 94 jezza323, 95 oldschool, 96 Iris, 97 Rense, 98 planedriver, 99 xs400, 100 Peter Zack, 101 Netuser 102 Photolady, 103 Tamia

Thanks for taking on the reins of hosting this week's POTW Irishwhite. It's off to a flying start by the looks of things.
Bit of damage from a hail storm we had yesterday. Another one is forecast for tonight.
A bit of jetstream activity.
A couple of landscape pics from the local park.
Early morning tourist balloon ride spotted from my lounge room window. Just as well I was already dressed.

Thanks for hosting, Irishwhite. Great intro!

Tom, nice capture of the deer. Looks almost as if they're on a frozen pond, but I assume they're in a field.

Xjjohnno, what a nice park. Cool how you caught a bird (dove?) in the photo of the balloon. Too bad about the damage from hail.

Love the contrasts in your photo, Ohce.

Here are a few from me this morning...

I think this cardinal is molting:

Thanx for hosting Irishwhite!

ramsey, that's a large and warm sun! Nice capture of the deer.

ohce, it's a nice one as already mentioned, great contrast.

Tamia! It's great to see the snow and ince melt, isnt it? ah, I so long for taking my bike out again.

Frank.. I'd love to have a macro-lens too, looks like great fun. I think I'd be shooting alot of bike-gear picked to pieces ^^

I don't have any marvelous pictures to provide yet, but I'll show what I got:

Some nice stuff this week everyone. Time for me to have a few to post. Just went for a walk and it was a nice almost spring like day. This is a few around a huge Church here in Charlottetown.

Finally getting some half decent weather up my way, so decided to chase some wildlife on my parents deck today. Tried a few different lenses, and here are a few that I don't think are half bad.

1. Shot with Tamron 500mm F8 mirror. Just missed the focus, and he / she was obviously in bad lighted area, but considering the conditions & being hand held....

2. Shot with my 200mm Takumar F3.5. My favorite out of the bunch.

3. Shot with my 100mm F4 Takumar. Luckily these little chickadees will let you get close to them.

Tamia - Nice series. I can see you were working on the fast shutter challenge - nice work.

bumbibop - I like the pic of your cat. I had a cat that looked very much like that - it brings back good memories.

Rense - that's a cool abstract - nice idea.

jezza323 - I feel your pain about the rain. We've also had a lot of rain and cloudy weather.

pcarfan - Nice detail shots. Good work.

eccs19 - Good series. #2 is excellent. And wow, shooting with the 500 mirror must be tough when the subject is moving - well done.
