Weekly Challenge #127 - Yin Yang

The challenge explained:

The concept of yin yang is used to describe how polar or seemingly contrary forces are interconnected and interdependent in the natural world, and how they give rise to each other and provide an environment for each other to exist. Some examples: dark and light, low and high, cold and hot, good and evil, complimentary colors, etc...

The challenge this week is to capture the spirit of Yin Yang...

Challenge Starts:
NOW! so what are you sitting in front of your computer, GO! (or dig in your archives)

Challenge Ends:
Monday, March 15th, 2010 @ 1159PM EST

The fine print....
1. Post ONE photo (max 1024x1024).
2. The photo must portray an interpretation of the theme.
3. Post your single picture in this thread, and explain what motivated you to take the picture and/or how you feel it represents the weekly theme (especially if it's not obvious).
4. The challenge is interactive. Any response is welcome.
5. The judge will pick the WINNERS and choose 1 of them to be the judge for the next week.
6. This challenge runs for 7 days plus a day for the judge to choose the winners.

This was taken at the Bristoe Station Battlefield in Bristow Virginia (USA).
Yin and Yang. A silo and a tree. The straight, dead, rigid with flowing, growing organic. Or, a living growing plant (tree) and a place to store dead plants. I took this just yesterday while wandering around the battlefield but not with yin/yang in mind. It just struck me as that later while working on it.

Shadow/Light

I took a couple of these images that made me think of Monet's waterlilies. Part of the photo is in the shade, and the other in the sun.

This is the Upper Hudson River in my hometown of Corinth, NY, looking down from the cliffs above the Spier Falls Dam. The effect on the river is striking.

Skunk cabbage sprouting thru the snow

Here's mine, I don't think it needs much explanation. BTW I've seen skunk cabbage melt a hole thru almost 4 inches (10cm) of snow.

NaCl(it's kinda neat seeing 25 or 30 of these melting their way thru the snow)H2O
