Project 52-2-39 Subject: Cloud
Posted By: mithrandir, 04-02-2010, 05:37 AM

For week 39 we will again be concentrating on shooting a specific subject. This time it will be a cloud. Smoke, Vapor, Confusion, -- You decide.

(Pictures for the week 39 competition are to be taken and posted between 20100404 and 20100411).

NOTE: We have two Seasonal competitions planned for the last two weeks of year two. You may take pictures for these anytime between 20090705 and the posting dates of 20100704 or 20100711. This way you can include your favorite holiday or season whenever it occurs during the year.

Rules:
1. Anyone and everyone who is interested in eligible. The goal continues to be
have fun and share comments, concepts, insights, and techniques with fellow
Pentaxians.
2. Each week will feature a Theme and Sub-concept for you to explore.
3. Post your single picture in Project 52-2 thread for the week. Explain what
motivated you to take the picture and/or how you feel it represents the weekly
theme.
4. Some post-processing is OK (adjusting white balance, exposure, color
saturation), but let's try to stay away from heavily PP'ed images here. Try to
keep the creativity to photographic techniques and the captures themselves.
5. Since this project is about technique, and not camera, shots taken by nonPentax cameras are allowed. Cameras can be SLRs, DSLRs, Point & Shoot and Medium Format.
6. There is one “Theme Concept” labeled “black and white,” but feel free to post
black and white, sepia, monotone, etc., for any of the other themes.
7. The picture you post should be taken during the week in which the theme is active to be eligible for judging.
8. Any picture taken from 20090705 to listed closing date is acceptable for the
two “Seasonal” competitions – Projects 52-2-51 & 52.

Here is one to get the ball rolling, or should I say, the clouds rolling.

The first fine day we have had for a little while, so I grabbed this shot, though nothing special I guess

I love clouds. With uniformly gray skies expected for the rest of the week, I'll dive in with this shot from the mountains on Sunday. LOTS of different clouds!

New Life Reaching to Clouds

Spring has sprung in Maryland and new life is everywhere. So far this week we have had cloudless days followed by brooding rain from an even and featureless gray sky. Today we got a bit of clear blue skies with fast moving wisps of clouds followed by an overcast. Lucky for me I got a shot off before the sky changed.

Going 70mph on the highway. Taken with my Canon S90. Does that disqualify my photo?

I was out on a photo walk yesterday and I caught an approaching snowstorm bearing down on the city...this one featured high winds, snow blowing sideways, thunder and flickering lights...very dramatic!
A half an hour prior to this photo it was sunny and warm...believe it or not.

No, we decided this year that other equipment could be used. It is technique and approach to the subject that we are mostly concerned with in P52-2 projects.

Wow, there are such great shots in this P52! Well done all!
I don't have too much time, I tried some nice shots last week, but none was good enough. at least not what I expected.
Well, yesterday evening I went for a sunset, and even that was not very succesfull.
But since this challenge is going to end soon, and I won't be able to add a better one,
I post one from yesterday evening/

I am not very interested in photographs of clouds as such, but I think clouds can give atmosphere to pictures of other subjects.
That is how I wanted to do it, that is how much of you did it, and that is how this picture of mine was intended.

Here's a shot from my backyard taken this morning. It's actually an HDR of 3 images. There was very little detail and not much color in the single exposures. I decided to go HDR to bring out the green in the foreground. BTW, the wind started blowing and it began to rain soon after this was taken.
