Project 52-2-40 Subject: Flowers
Posted By: mithrandir, 04-07-2010, 06:10 PM

For week 40 we will again be concentrating on shooting a specific subject.
This week it will be Flowers. Loverly Loverly Flowers.
(Pictures for the week 40 competition are to be taken and posted between 20100411 and 20100418).

NOTE: We have two Seasonal competitions planned for the last two weeks of year two. You may take pictures for these anytime between 20090705 and the posting dates of 20100704 or 20100711. This way you can include your favorite holiday or season whenever it occurs during the year.

Rules:
1. Anyone and everyone who is interested in eligible. The goal continues to be
have fun and share comments, concepts, insights, and techniques with fellow
Pentaxians.
2. Each week will feature a Theme and Sub-concept for you to explore.
3. Post your single picture in Project 52-2 thread for the week. Explain what
motivated you to take the picture and/or how you feel it represents the weekly
theme.
4. Some post-processing is OK (adjusting white balance, exposure, color
saturation), but let's try to stay away from heavily PP'ed images here. Try to
keep the creativity to photographic techniques and the captures themselves.
5. Since this project is about technique, and not camera, shots taken by nonPentax cameras are allowed. Cameras can be SLRs, DSLRs, Point & Shoot and Medium Format.
6. There is one “Theme Concept” labeled “black and white,” but feel free to post
black and white, sepia, monotone, etc., for any of the other themes.
7. The picture you post should be taken during the week in which the theme is active to be eligible for judging.
8. Any picture taken from 20090705 to listed closing date is acceptable for the
two “Seasonal” competitions – Projects 52-2-51 & 52.

Woo! Hoo! I just happen to have a contribution!

A Fine Bunch of Tulips

K10D, Pentax-FA 77/1.8 Limited

I like the old time, hand-tinted look of photos where one or more colors are desaturated. In this case, both the green and yellow channels were trimmed.

I'll start if it's okay! The flower is an orchid that I bought recently from IKEA.
That is from another world. Well done indeed!

I assume I'm in the right week here.. Decided to try some HSS shots after dark using the K7 / AF540 /DA*50-135.. Pretty much shooting blind as it was dark outside. The only thing I could actually see in the viewfinder is the exposure data. These blossoms last about 1 week here and they are about half way through that. Couldn't tell you what they are but since this tree is next to my driveway, my car will be covered with the petals by morning.

Minimal processing. Adjust exposure in ACR (shooting manual) and a levels adjustment in Photoshop. Cropped for best part of the frame.

Although flowers are not too tough to shoot, I'm lacking inspiration to do in an original way . So here is my entry, shot yesterday. If I can think of something better, I will withdraw this entry and post my new attempt. But don't count on it...

It's early for wildflowers here, but on a hike yesterday I was lucky to happen on a warm woodland slope with these delicate tiny flowers, Carolina spring beauty (Claytonia caroliniana), highlighted against the forest floor. The blooms are only about as large as the nail on your pinkie finger.

This I shot yesterday in my front garden. Used the Vivitar Series I 205mm macro, as I like to do. Was not sure which one to include.

Insects love these blossoms. If you look closely there is one inside.

I have set up a new thread for my current garden flower shots. If people prefer one of the other photos, I might change my entry here. (If that is kosher.)

Shamrock in Flower

We have this shamrock plant that we periodically let die back. After watering it always comes back with flowers. Here is my attempt to capture the moment:

By the way this thread is going, it appears that flowers are a favored subject. Keep up the good work. There is still time for lingerers to enter.
