Project 52-2-40 Subject: Flowers
Posted By: mithrandir, 04-07-2010, 06:10 PM

For week 40 we will again be concentrating on shooting a specific subject.
This week it will be Flowers. Loverly Loverly Flowers.
(Pictures for the week 40 competition are to be taken and posted between 20100411 and 20100418).

NOTE: We have two Seasonal competitions planned for the last two weeks of year two. You may take pictures for these anytime between 20090705 and the posting dates of 20100704 or 20100711. This way you can include your favorite holiday or season whenever it occurs during the year.

Rules:
1. Anyone and everyone who is interested in eligible. The goal continues to be
have fun and share comments, concepts, insights, and techniques with fellow
Pentaxians.
2. Each week will feature a Theme and Sub-concept for you to explore.
3. Post your single picture in Project 52-2 thread for the week. Explain what
motivated you to take the picture and/or how you feel it represents the weekly
theme.
4. Some post-processing is OK (adjusting white balance, exposure, color
saturation), but let's try to stay away from heavily PP'ed images here. Try to
keep the creativity to photographic techniques and the captures themselves.
5. Since this project is about technique, and not camera, shots taken by nonPentax cameras are allowed. Cameras can be SLRs, DSLRs, Point & Shoot and Medium Format.
6. There is one “Theme Concept” labeled “black and white,” but feel free to post
black and white, sepia, monotone, etc., for any of the other themes.
7. The picture you post should be taken during the week in which the theme is active to be eligible for judging.
8. Any picture taken from 20090705 to listed closing date is acceptable for the
two “Seasonal” competitions – Projects 52-2-51 & 52.

Rob, what is that bluish thing in about the center of the photo? Shouldn't you make it less obvious? That will surely enhance it!

I've never looked that closely at Hydrangeas before but I liked the colours and details in the individual petals.

Graham, that is a beautifull shot, with all tones of blue and some purple tinges!
Welcome to the P52, can't remember I've seen you here before!

Wow! Early hydrangeas! Mine have barely leafed out, much less budded! Someone has a hot house?

Done too many, I guess. No, it's just the moment that is not so inspirational.....
I am in much the same spot and have almost sworn off flowers. So...where am I headed after I post this message? To the tulip fields near my home! Maybe I should shoot them in gritty black and white

Hi Rense

I've dabbled with some of the Weekly and PP challenges but this is my first time for Project 52

Although flowers are not too tough to shoot, I'm lacking inspiration to do in an original way . So here is my entry, shot yesterday. If I can think of something better, I will withdraw this entry and post my new attempt. But don't count on it...

But it's still a beautiful flower and well captured!

That, my friend, was the shaft of one of those glass water globes peeking through the leaves. I agree, it was distracting. Good call -- color it gone.

Wow, there are some really great shots in this thread! Here is my humble submission. This is a Japanese Quince which has not done well since it was planted. Although it's half dead, it still flowered this year. So here it is, close up. :-)

DA 35/2.8 - no sharpening, just slight exposure/contrast adjustment:

Bravo to the photographers of superb images posted earlier in this thread!

This was captured outside the Midland Community Center building in Michigan with a K100D, SMC Pentax Macro 1:4/100, ISO 200, aperture priority. Cropped, background darkened and background retouched — all in iPhoto.

Some people dislike black backgrounds, but I often consider them to be quite pleasing.

Comments, criticism and suggestions re this image will be appreciated.

I'll soon install Nik Software's Viveza.
