Photo Of The Week April 4 - April 18
Posted By: tpeace, 04-10-2010, 07:26 PM

Welcome to 109th edition of the Pentax Forum's Picture of the Week!
This edition covers photos taken between April 4th thru April 18th.

Thanks to JeffJS for hosting last week (https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/mini-challenges-games-photo-stories/96274...pril-11-a.html) and giving me the nod for my first effort at hosting POTW. I look forward to seeing a lot of great images from everyone as the Northern Hemisphere moves into Spring.

POTW is a great way to see what Pentax owners are doing with their cameras as they post whatever pictures they took during the active week. Check in here to see a nice variety of great photos.

So grab your camera, get out there and shoot! Then come on back here and share your shots with your fellow Pentaxians!

Feel free to post your photos from this coming week, as well as this last week!

Again same rules and really other than time frames, there are no rules:

1) No theme, just post your favorite pix.

2) Let's keep it to about 4-6 images per post just so the thread doesn't get too big each week.

3) Any Pentax camera or Samsung DSLR is fine, whether it's film, P&S, or DSLR

4) Date: Sunday 4 April 2010 to Sunday 18 April 2010. Enter anything you shot last week or during this current week until the thread closes. Old shots with a new look from post processing during the open time period are also welcome.

5) The current host will appoint the new host as an invitation via PM. If possible, the new thread will be linked to the previous one and the new thread will start between 12:00EST and 5PM EST on the Sunday. If the thread doesn't start, please contact Peter Zack, Moderator via PM.

Previous hosts: Each one is a hotlink to that POTW thread to look past at the previous 103 weeks. 1 Peter Zack, 2Eaglerapids 3 rmtagg, 4 Peter Zack, 5 daacon, 6 Bramela, 7 mtnbearhug, 8 dantuyhoa, 9 gawan,10 roentarre, 11 daacon, 12 Kris, 13 mtnbearhug, 14 SCGushue, 15 daacon, 16 maxwell1295, 17 dantuyhoa, 18 daacon, 19 maxwell1295 19(2) daacon, 20 Bramela, 21 Syb, 22 maxwell1295, 23 maxwell1295, 24 dantuyhoa, 25 Gawan, 26 Peter Zack, 27 borno, 28 daacon, 29 gawan, 30 Damn Brit, 31 maxwell1295 32 maxwell1295 , 33 dantuyhoa, 34 daacon, 35 Peter Zack, 36 Damn Brit, 37 Borno, 38 Kevint, 39 Peter Zack, 40 Timbo13, 41 daacon, 42 daacon, 43 gawan, 44 dantuyhoa, 45 daacon, 46 Rense, 47 daacon, 48 Rense, 49 borno, 50 Rense, 51 daacon, 52 Peter Zack, 53 Peter Zack, 54 dadipentax, 55 David Whiteley, 56 planedriver, 57 daacon,58 Bramela, 59 daacon, 60 gawan, 61 virgilr, 62 daacon, 63 RickL, 64 Peter Zack, 65 Peter Zack, 66 Causey 67 daacon, 68 Bramela, 69 georgeweb, 70 daacon, 71 seacapt, 72 daacon, 73 AOski, 74 Rense 75 eccs19, 76 daacon, 77 xs400, 78 daacon, 79 Bramela, 80 borno, 81 legacyb4, 82 daacon, 83 gawan, 84 Rense, 85 Peter Zack, 86 davef, 87 davef, 88 xjjohnno 89 Bramela , 90 Peter Zack, 91 daacon, 92 stevebrot ,93 reeftool, 94 jezza323, 95 oldschool, 96 Iris, 97 Rense, 98 planedriver, 99 xs400, 100 Peter Zack, 101 Netuser 102 Photolady, 103 Tamia,

Here's a few photos from my tropical get-away last week to start the show...

Rainbow over lava flow:

Palm grove at Pu'uhonau o Honaunau, Place of Refuge National Park:

My personal escort while snorkeling:

Shipwreck: While on a drinking binge the owner decided her sailboat was infested with termites so she set it on fire to rid herself of the pests.
A little extreme, but she certainly no longer has a termite problem!

Look forward to seeing everyone's work!

Regards,
-tom

Tamia, those are nice, and follow on from my own outdoor shots. Can you tell me where they were taken? Really they could be almost anywhere. I certainly am familiar with those large boulders from Ontario. The first shot, with the light dappling, is my fave.

Will have more shots of my own from a garden expedition... soon!

I am playing a lot with my recently aqcuired Vivitar 55/2.8 1:1 macro. All my other macro lenses (Tak 50/4, A100/4 en Bellows-Tak 100/4) do only 1:2, and are really slow, which makes focussing quite cumbersome. So, I posted quite some macro shots made this week, but I have lots (!!!!) more. Hope you don't mind I post some of them here.

Great work from everyone this week. There is an art project in NYC where these sculptures have been placed throughout lower Manhattan. It looks like aliens have invaded....

Tamia - Love your water shots! Nice shadow play on the boulder shot as well.
Rense - More examples of excellent camera work from you. I could never get a fly to hold still.
OldSchool - Sounds like a fun project. Wonder if those "Watching from above" statues freak people out?

Tamia, great streamshots! Just a week too early, you must have enough for the next P52...
Paul, really fun shots, I like the last one very much. You have to clean your sensor, there are some large dust spots! I bought me some swaps lately, to clean the sensor of my K20. Wet. Kinda scary, but it was very easy, and it worked quite well! Otherwise: arctic butterfly, of course...

Robin, I like that Anemone nemorosa shot! I find it quite difficult to shoot white flowers, they are easily blown out.....

Went out and took some pictures to post in the graveyard thread. I'll share a couple here too... Taken with my Pentax MZ-S and the Zenitar 16mm FE. The first time I ever put that lens on a full frame camera. Ilford PanF+ 50...

So, is that what it is? I am useless at botany. But yes, I find it a challenge to shoot petals, especially yellow and white. Here I wanted exacting detail but also a good amount of contrast.

Thanks!

As I say in my flower photo thread, Fuchsia must have been genetically engineered for Valentine's Day by some breeder in Madison Avenue! They grow wild all over these parts, but these are in our garden. While I realise that flower shots can sometimes benefit from soft focus and a creative approach, this time I wanted to capture petal texture and fine detail, so I tried to get things as sharp as possible. Different PP could change the feeling entirely.

I won't duplicate the rest here, instead see my thread.
