Photo Of The Week April 4 - April 18
Posted By: tpeace, 04-10-2010, 07:26 PM

Welcome to 109th edition of the Pentax Forum's Picture of the Week!
This edition covers photos taken between April 4th thru April 18th.

Thanks to JeffJS for hosting last week (https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/mini-challenges-games-photo-stories/96274...pril-11-a.html) and giving me the nod for my first effort at hosting POTW. I look forward to seeing a lot of great images from everyone as the Northern Hemisphere moves into Spring.

POTW is a great way to see what Pentax owners are doing with their cameras as they post whatever pictures they took during the active week. Check in here to see a nice variety of great photos.

So grab your camera, get out there and shoot! Then come on back here and share your shots with your fellow Pentaxians!

Feel free to post your photos from this coming week, as well as this last week!

Again same rules and really other than time frames, there are no rules:

1) No theme, just post your favorite pix.

2) Let's keep it to about 4-6 images per post just so the thread doesn't get too big each week.

3) Any Pentax camera or Samsung DSLR is fine, whether it's film, P&S, or DSLR

4) Date: Sunday 4 April 2010 to Sunday 18 April 2010. Enter anything you shot last week or during this current week until the thread closes. Old shots with a new look from post processing during the open time period are also welcome.

5) The current host will appoint the new host as an invitation via PM. If possible, the new thread will be linked to the previous one and the new thread will start between 12:00EST and 5PM EST on the Sunday. If the thread doesn't start, please contact Peter Zack, Moderator via PM.

Previous hosts: Each one is a hotlink to that POTW thread to look past at the previous 103 weeks. 1 Peter Zack, 2Eaglerapids 3 rmtagg, 4 Peter Zack, 5 daacon, 6 Bramela, 7 mtnbearhug, 8 dantuyhoa, 9 gawan,10 roentarre, 11 daacon, 12 Kris, 13 mtnbearhug, 14 SCGushue, 15 daacon, 16 maxwell1295, 17 dantuyhoa, 18 daacon, 19 maxwell1295 19(2) daacon, 20 Bramela, 21 Syb, 22 maxwell1295, 23 maxwell1295, 24 dantuyhoa, 25 Gawan, 26 Peter Zack, 27 borno, 28 daacon, 29 gawan, 30 Damn Brit, 31 maxwell1295 32 maxwell1295 , 33 dantuyhoa, 34 daacon, 35 Peter Zack, 36 Damn Brit, 37 Borno, 38 Kevint, 39 Peter Zack, 40 Timbo13, 41 daacon, 42 daacon, 43 gawan, 44 dantuyhoa, 45 daacon, 46 Rense, 47 daacon, 48 Rense, 49 borno, 50 Rense, 51 daacon, 52 Peter Zack, 53 Peter Zack, 54 dadipentax, 55 David Whiteley, 56 planedriver, 57 daacon,58 Bramela, 59 daacon, 60 gawan, 61 virgilr, 62 daacon, 63 RickL, 64 Peter Zack, 65 Peter Zack, 66 Causey 67 daacon, 68 Bramela, 69 georgeweb, 70 daacon, 71 seacapt, 72 daacon, 73 AOski, 74 Rense 75 eccs19, 76 daacon, 77 xs400, 78 daacon, 79 Bramela, 80 borno, 81 legacyb4, 82 daacon, 83 gawan, 84 Rense, 85 Peter Zack, 86 davef, 87 davef, 88 xjjohnno 89 Bramela , 90 Peter Zack, 91 daacon, 92 stevebrot ,93 reeftool, 94 jezza323, 95 oldschool, 96 Iris, 97 Rense, 98 planedriver, 99 xs400, 100 Peter Zack, 101 Netuser 102 Photolady, 103 Tamia,

Here's a few photos from my tropical get-away last week to start the show...

Rainbow over lava flow:

Palm grove at Pu'uhonau o Honaunau, Place of Refuge National Park:

My personal escort while snorkeling:

Shipwreck: While on a drinking binge the owner decided her sailboat was infested with termites so she set it on fire to rid herself of the pests.
A little extreme, but she certainly no longer has a termite problem!

Look forward to seeing everyone's work!

Regards,
-tom

Thanks Tom for being this weeks host..

I've gone a little abstract in the last few days.. Taking my camera with a 12-24 mounted up in the car and seeing what kind of images I can make with traffic lights, while driving (Yes, Stay out of my way ). With some I really like the effect, with others it's complete chaos.

Saturday I had the honor of going to the start of a home that is being built for a Army veteran who was severly injured in Bagdad in 2009. I took over 400 pictures the 1st day of the build and here are a couple of my favorites.
All were taken on April 10, 2010 with my K-x

#1 The Canine family along with some members of his unit setting up the 1st wall

#2 This well be the 1st picture of SSG Rober Canine and his wife Jenifer in their new home

#3 This is Robert, his sister and a couple of the volunteer workers. It's now about 5pm check the house in the background

Tom, thanks for hosting this week's POTW. Your scuba diving trip looks like it was a hell of a lot of fun.

Thanx Tom for hosting! Great pictures, there's something scary and romantic about shipwrecks.

Jeff, interesting shots looks like fun. the blue one looks very electric!

Legacyb4, well captured.

gramps50, wonderful project and great pictures. Glad you can take part in something beautiful like that.

xjjohnno, very crisp and nice last picture, beatiful in all!

As spring is here, we've started flying down the hills with our downhillbikes..
(sorry for the rather dark pictures, light was odd and my camera have stopped working with my external flash)

One of my co-bikers are launching of a double.

Another friend is avoilding some trees while flying by.

I'm jumping over my camera setup while a friend is clicking the remote.

Tom: Love the snorkeling shots. Would like to see more as underwater is a place I do not visit very often.

After missing last week I am prepping photos for this thread.

JeffJS - Fun abstracts! Interesting effect. Hope all the squiggles are from your camera shifting and not your driving!
Legacyb4 - Nice tulip shot! Love the subtleness of the colors!
Gramps - First off, I salute you and your neighbors for your community service. Your first shot captures that sense of good feeling among the participants. From the 3rd shot, I think you guys made impressive progress in one day.
xjjohnson - nice simple colors. Love the isolation of the red against the green in #'s 1 & 2. Nice Bohek in $3.
Robin – Great use of a Fish eye for action shots. Not too many people think to try this! The FE distortion on shot #2 makes me think the rider is barely escaping under a falling tree! #3 is just fantastic! (Not sure which would scare me more – riding the jump or being underneath to shoot the photo!)

Thanks for getting us off to a good start!

Regards,
-tom

rparmar - looking forward to your shots. Since you asked ... here's the full trip gallery from last week's trip. More underwater shots are included there.

I'm going to do a review of the SPL housing I used so look for that sometime this week in the Accessories thread.

Here's my first post of a K7 video I shot swimming with the Mantra Rays this past Wednesday.

Thank you kindly As my two biggest interests are action-biking and photographing, a fish-eye lens came rather natural to me I'm still learning from it and its great fun! Haha indeed, the tree in the #2 is heavily distorted, thou the landing from that jump is rather narrow between two trees.

Noone had to be underneath, as I brought my wireless remote with me I wouldnt dare to jump over anyone tbh. ^^

Great videosample! I'd be a bit scare with em big Mantra Rays that close..

We went out of town yesterday to a lovely area known as the Clare Glens. I have a few straightforward nature shots -- you know, light, trees, rock, that kind of thing.

Sometimes it is obvious but at other times it is difficult to tell if colour or B&W are better suited to the image.

Yes, It's the camera shaking One hand on the steering wheel the other holding the camera. Two of those shots were done on the interstate at 75mph, if I'd been driving like that, the police would have had an interesting test for me to take and a (not so) fun place to spend the night.

I decided to turn some of those same sort of shots of the woods into abstracts. Some sort of accidental colour curve transformed a photo into something I liked.
