We had a nice pallet of
entries this week, with quite different interpretations of the theme LIQUIDS. I loved all your entries,
and although the number of participants was not as high as last week, the
quality was very good! I hoped to take part in this competition too, but that was
prevented by the judge of the flower P52
.
So, here are the results. Totally subjective as ever, but that is part of the fun,
isn't it? I will comment on every entry, and in the end I will declare the winners.
This time I decided to keep three points in mind judging your photos: originality,
performance (technical aspects etc.), and the appeal. That last one is quite
subjective, isn't it ?
First I want to thank Clou and Robin for their entrances. Not eligible, because not
shot within the time frame, but I think it's great to see these photos as
encouragement too! Thanks!
In order of appearance:
Tamia. Very sharp and colourful photo of a small waterfall, fitting in
weeks theme as, well.... water in a river. Great shot, well executed and a
pleasant composition.
Steve. Another stream shot, but totally different from the one Tamia
entered. Quite dynamic, which was underlined by the panorama-like crop. I love
the curves and curls in this one. Execution is great, and very attractive, at least
for my eyes!
Minikin. A slice of lemon in a glass of soda. I had some trouble to see the
connection to the theme of the week, but suddenly, after some days, I realised
this one suggests what can't be seen. There's a lemon, there are bubbles, but no
liquid. But there is a strong suggestion of liquid, and this makes the photo
perfectly fitting!
Original, great composition and good use of colours. I
would have liked a tad better control of the highlights only, and probably a bit
better sharpness. Well done, I like this one!
Mar. A streamshot with a lot of motion. Lovely, but my eyes have some
problem to focus, I'm missing a point to step into the pic. Otherwise it's great,
although there is motion in it, I experience rest in this one too.
Mark. A nice photo of a fountain. Of course it fits the theme! I like the
composition, with the begonias in the foreground (you didn't know I hate
begonias, do you?). The movement of the water is perfectly stopped. The photo
has a lot of noise though, or is it a film shot with grain? In any case, I don't really
like it in this one.
Frank. A wine pouring photo. Sharp, attractive, no background whatsoever,
original. What can one say? From the series you showed in the PotW, this one
was the best imo, so it's perfect you chose this one for this P52!
Jord. Three pots with...I don't want to know! An original shot with nice
colours, and a pleasant composition. Probably I would have chosen to show a bit
more of the glass at the top edge of the pots, but that's only a minor point. Well
done, great shot!
Tom. With the balloon Jord wanted to throw
. Great shot, original, you
stopped motion quite nice! That 'thingy' in the right is a bit distracting though...
Iris. An abstract water shot. Quite different, but well executed. I can't even
tell whether it's sharp or not. I think this is typically a case that asks to break
rules: subject in the centre. And I think that is how it has to be.
Well done!
Blue. A not so high tech thermometer. Great subject, original! Could have
been sharper I think, and the picture gives me the feeling it's tilted. But in total
it's pleasant pic to look at
!
Simon. A calm camp-site stream. Lovely, well executed, very peaceful, and I
like the composition with the diagonal line of boulders. It's very sharp and I find
it an attractive photo, worth to be looked at.
As for the winners, I want to declare
3 runner-ups: Iris, Steve, and Tom. Your
shots are worth to be mentioned again!
3rd place:
Jord, with
Primary Colours
2nd place:
Minikin, with
Slice of Summer
And the 1st place goes to:
Frank, with
The Good Life.
Isn't that what we all want?
Congrats to the winners! Frank, the next judging job is for you
And congrats to all entries, it was a great week. Let's go for
next weeks P52: Motion!
