Elephant Stable

Another version of the pic.
One among the few least destroyed structures in Hampi, Elephant Stable is a major tourist attraction. This long building with a row of domed chambers was used to ‘park’ the royal elephants. There are 11 domed tall chambers; some of them are inter- connected. The center one is specially decorated and big, considered to park the main royal elephant, which is exclusively used during festivals to carry deities or the emperor.

Shows the lens off nicely. I love mine as well. Working with the other end of the focal lengths the last few weeks. 1.7x400=680 mm. M 400/5.6 on AFA 1.7x

This is actually my second go-around with the DA 12-24. I bought one in 2010. It was my first high-end lens — sort of entry drug to the world of LBA and high-end Pentax glass. I ended up selling it a couple years later, mostly because of poor edge to edge performance at infinity focus (looking back, I suspect there may have been some decentering issues with that copy of the lens). Was fine for a few years without it, but at the beginning of this year, I felt I needed an ultra wide zoom for a planned trip to Bryce, Zion, Yosemite and Grand Canyon. I really endeavored to reconcile myself to one of those cheaper third party options, but no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't reconcile myself to the compromises the Tamron and Sigma options entailed, and so I purchased — at, admittedly, a fairly hefty price — the 12-24. I haven't used the lens a whole lot since it came into my hands, but when I have, it's delivered the goods, with sharp, crisp, contrasty images with those wonderful Pentax greens and blues. And my second version is definitely superior to the first — so I'm glad to have the lens back in the stable.

I tried this lens with a borrowed K1 camera from Ricoh India and it worked beautifully from 18mm (12mm on APSC). Crystal clear and razor sharp. [IMG]

Also a favored lens, even at 24mm. Paris parking.
