Nice shots Andreas. ( I hope my cat shots inspired you to buy )

I find that my DA*55 seems to engage the motor at times and I can't shift the focus ring - it seems stuck. When this happens I prefer to refocus using AF on another object rather than force it.
At the end of the focus range the lens will allow you to continue to rotate the ring and the 'feel' changes to a more gritty sensation. I think that's pretty normal.

The DA*55 is probably the best '50' on the market right now.
I only had the DA18-55 WR and DA*300/4 as weather sealed lenses and I wanted something better (especially faster) than the 18-55 for normal use, as the 300mm is long for a walk around. The 55mm has been tempting me a long time as a normal lens for me as the only wide angle I truly work well with is my Sigma 20/1.8 so I can easily call myself a tele shooter. Though having a DA* wide angle would be nice for nature walking, even though I guess I will use a 55/1.4 more.

Also I nearly pulled the trigger on the Voigtlander Nokton 58mm f/1.4 SL II as it looks just wonderful and is quite cheap for what it brings or the Pentax A 50/1.2 for the pixie dust, but as I got the DA* 55/1.4 cheaper than both I feel really happy! It was actually Flickr and this thread that made me skip the manual lenses and wait for the DA* 55/1.4. Reviewers often call it overpriced but I only paid 100€ extra for the DA* compared to what I recently sold my FA50/1.4 for, when I sold it to finance a lens which became the 55/1.4!

Apparently the D600 dust on the sensor issue self 'fixes' after 3000 shots... lol. The D600 sucks air into the mirror box via a gap in the shutter mount I believe... perhaps it gets clogged after 3000 shots ;-) Seriously, I'm sorry to hear that you are having this problem. A guy at my local store tried to sell me one and I told him there was no chance.

My D800E's have both had the odd oil splashes from the mirror box on the sensor as well.. pointing the camera UP is a scary prospect when you know there could well be some oil heading down onto it. When you own Nikon cameras it seems to be advantageous to learn wet sensor cleaning because they are a nightmare for these issues. I won't be paying some AH $150 to clean some oil off the sensor every few months.

WB on the D800 are pretty rank IMHO. That yellow green colour seems way off the mark compared to my K-5 & K-01. The engineers and Nikon must be colour blind. I too have altered WB to a custom setting.
So I looked at my sensor under a microscope yesterday and at least some of the "dust" looks like tiny metal shavings! Could possibly be silver paint too I guess but not confidence inspiring either way. I'm leaning towards "upgrading" to a D800 at this point but after reading about your experience with it I'm not so sure...the green tinge AWB is pretty ugly if you can't calibrate for it in camera. Maybe I need to spend some time with my K5 and DA*55 this weekend and re-evaluate If only the mythical Pentax full frame camera could make SDM motors spin faster I wouldn't bother with Nikon at all

Sorry. Not an uncommon scene this time of year. The contrast between the sunrise and the kill struck me...

Yes I take you point. It is a powerful image.

I have strong opinions about violence toward animals that I'll keep to myself as I've been banned from one thread for expressing them.

Just got my DA*55 and I'm loving it. Will post a few pictures soon. The focusing ring is so smooth, and while there's a little scratching at the ends - it's much nicer than my Sigma 50 F1.4's focus ring. Focus speed is a bit slower, but not unreasonable for my use. I adore the fact that it is smaller than the Sigma, and the hood is so much more substantial in feel and look. Not to mention the array of colors (gold, red, green) is endearing to me. Absolutely smitten with this lens.

Full size image from my k-x, with minor sharpening applied. Shot at F1.4. I think I've got a good copy because it's surprisingly sharp edge to edge wide open.
