Great shots chaps. Wish I could afford this lens! Have tried the Sigma 30. Not even close IMHO.

I find it odd that the 31mm is as old and as popular as it is and there are only 3 pages of images here over 5 years. I expected 10+ pages when I started looking at it.

Well, it is a very expensive lens and the lens sample pages only started up within the last year. Clearly, you would expect more photo samples from the DA primes in this setting than from the FA primes. I personally am more likely to post in the FA Limited club than in the "lens sample area." The Fa limited club has 297 pages at last count and certainly there are a few of those from the FA 31 limited.

I looked through the fan club page and there are a fair amount. It appears this lens is not as popular as the 43 or 77. The 31mm is 11+ years old though and I would have expected to see more activity. I'm not sure I would expect to see more DA primes than FA primes. Given the age of the FA lenses you would expect to see more of them in circulation. How old is the 43mm and the 77mm (20+ years?)

I thought that they were all released between 1999 and 2000, but I could be wrong. Certainly the whole FA series of lenses isn't 20+ years old. Even when the FA 31 was new, there was great argument about whether its fairly expensive price tag warranted the benefits your got over the (then very cheap) FA 35. I think many people went for the FA 35 instead due to price.

The 31 is the most expensive of the FA limited series. It was the last one that I got. I think most people start with the 43 because of cost or with the 77 because there is not much in that range. With the 31 I was really on the fence about it because I was happy with what I could do with my DA35 limited. It just arrived today and I am still not certain that I "needed" it because I am so impressed by the 35.

The 43mm was introduced in 1997 and that may be the first of the three. I don't know Pentax history well enough. The 31mm was 2001 and was the last. 12 years is still a long time.

Sure, but as Allison says, it is a thousand dollar lens, where there are plenty of other 30-ish mm options. I just think there are a lot of folks who skip that one of the FA limiteds. I know when I bought the DA 35 limited, I was between it and the FA 31. At the time, the DA 35 macro was just above 300 dollars. The FA 31, even then, was a little over 700 dollars. I went with the cheaper lens, certain that my skills weren't up to handling the more expensive lens.

If it is simply a matter of the price being too high, then there is no reason for Pentax to make a FF body. $1,000 is not overly expensive for full frame glass. The Canon, Nikon, & Sony 35mm f/1.4s are all between $1,300.00 & $1,600.00. The Pentax is the cheapest lens in the pro-grade class (assuming it can hold its own against those newer lenses).
