Not everyone agrees on this one. Some people find Tamron 70-200 f2.8 sharp at 200 f2.8. Others don't. Part of this is because sharpness is partially subjective, as each individual has different standards of what qualifies as "sharp." Other reasons why some people don't think the lens is sharp are: (1) the narrow DOF at 200mm f2.8, even on APS-C cameras; (2) front or back focusing problems, exasperated by narrow DOF; (3) sample variation; (4) poor technique. I suspect it's mostly a problem of narrow DOF, poor technique, and having false ideals about what qualifies as "sharp" that are the main reasons why some complain about sharpness wide-open at 200mm, but I could be wrong about that. From my own experiences with the lens, I would say this: a good copy of the Tamron 70-200 f2.8 that focuses accurately is sharp wide-open at any focal length, including 200mm, and is tack sharp at f4.

I've posted this image before, but here's a shot at 200mm, f2.8. Click to get access to full resolution image:

Thanks for your reply, northcoastgreg!
I bought this lens 2 days ago and I'm very impressive. Wide open at 200mm still sharp and more shaper from f/3.5.
The AF is noise... but faster than my old DA*50-135 f/2.8 !
I love this lens!

You make this lens sing, Northcoast. I'll have to carry it more often, particularly since I let go of my *50-135.

Thanks.

Now from some shots with the Tammy combined with the Pentax DA 1.4x converter. I'm actually surprised how well the Tamron works with the 1.4x RC, with almost no loss in resolution and improved color:

There are some excellent images here. Thanks for posting. It's not a lens I own, but I did consider it for a long time. It's weight saw me go to a DA*200 instead. But, it's still great to see what I'm missing.
