Indeed, it performs well for a close focus telezoom. Stopped down at focusing distances less than 1.5m, it can hardly be beat in IQ.

I've been looking for one of these for a while. Beautiful shots here.

Has anyone compared it to the Tokina 80-200 f2.8?

When I looked at sample shots from the Tokina, it renders very nicely, isn't as sharp (about as sharp as the Sigma 70-200), and is VERY VERY SOLID.

I was tempted to get one because you can find one for a bit cheaper than the Tamron.

I think this lens deserves more samples. In fact, every once in a while, someone asks how sharp it is wide open. There are some good examples in this thread, but I thought I would contribute one with a 100 % crop. It's a great lens in many respects, and this is one of them (if anyone should ask me).

I would plenty use for a WR lens in this range... and i would consider the DA* 50-135 if this lens would not perform sooo good! I must say its together with the DA40 the sharpest lens I own!

great sets here, is this lens really slow when it comes to AF vs the Sigma/Pentax?

I am really inclined to get my 1st fast tele zoom

Thank you.

Surprised no one has posted here in a while. In any case, the Tamron 70-200 remains a very fine lens, great for zoo photography:

It is amazingly sharp even wide open. Here is a test photo I took a while ago. Click to download it in full resolution.
