smc Pentax-M 50mm F2

Not a hugely popular 50mm lens I know, but it's the only manual focus lens I have.

Excellent results for an ordinary 'kit" lens.

Thanks! The manual focus has been taking me a bit of getting used to. The small K-x viewfinder, along with my glasses hasn't been helping either!

The M 50mm F2 is the lens I first picked up but wondered if I should have got the highly touted F1.7. These shots make me think I didn't make that bad a choice.

I picked up a copy of this lens on a K1000 body at a local thrift store for $15. Can't go wrong there!
I actually really love this lens - I have it on my K-r right now and use it on a day-to-day basis around our little homestead!

The M 50/2 is not bad ... works well stopped down. I rarely use it though ... I got one attached to the K1000 I bought a few years ago ... J

This lens is actually quite an amazing little bit of kit considering its size/price .... It's the first fast k-mount I picked up many years back and I did much experimenting with it, then quickly realized I wanted an M50/1.4 and never looked back (well, not much). For quite some time I took out the 2.0 when I didn't want to take the 1.4, but that also stopped and eventually I took the 1.4 around the world on my K-7. At any rate - I owe something to the M50/2.0. I still remember looking at this shot below on the back of my K100D Super and thinking "wow! that's nice" or something along those lines. Here's to you lil 50/2.

The Pentax-M 50mm F2 was the first Pentax lens I got.

Now I'm a bit addicted to the M series and have the 50mm F4 Macro, 28mm F3.5, and 135mm F3.5.

Can anyone make a case that a photo taken by the 50/2.0 would be noticeably different from a 50/1.4 at say f5.6? I think too many judge the lens on its price, not its ability.

Very good point. Thing is that in those days Pentax didn't make a bad lens. The M 50 2.0 provides a massive bang for buck ratio.

My M series addiction is pretty bad too: 20/4, 28/2.8, 50/1.4, 50/1.7, 50/2.0, 100/2.8 and 200/4. I still need a 35/2.8, 85/2.0 and 135/3.5 to round things out.

Completionists would point out the 30/2.8, 40/2.8 and 120/2.8 and a few others but I am not completely nuts (only partly). I do have a K135/3.5 but there are some slight differences.

Oh, nice! Having both the 50/1.4 and 50/2.0, do you find the extra stop to be useful in low-light conditions, or does it not matter that much? I've been keeping an eye out for one in decent condition.

The 135/3.5 is pretty compact and handy, and it isn't too hard to get your hands on one in good condition. Good luck getting that 85/2.0, they seem like a bit more work to get!

I think I have a pretty well-rounded set so far, but that 20/4, 40/2.8, and 85/2.0 do look nice... And isn't the 30/2.8 a 'K' series lens?
