I just love this lens. It is such easier to handle then my Sigma 180 Macro.

A couple of older shots from my original K3.

I use the AF540FGZII flash with a Gary Fong diffuser when shooting indoors at the butterfly show. The results can definitely be mixed. This one was with the Tamron 1.4 TC.

Yes, it is a great macro lens - very sharp! But, because of my old eyes I mostly use it on AF, and I find that at certain distances, in the right (wrong?) situation, it is inclined to "hunt" a little. But still love its results!

No one ever wanted to actually BE a yellow admiral.

Poor old Admiral Byng paid the ultimate price for being so characterised, being executed "pour encourager les autres", as Voltaire said: John Byng - Wikipedia

Poor Byng would have been much better off had he been an actual yellow admiral in the Royal Navy sense! "Yellowed" admirals got no additional commands.

'Yellow Admiral' description from Oxford Reference:

A term used in the British Navy during the days of sail to denote a post-captain promoted to rear admiral on retirement without ever serving in that rank. The term dates from the days before 1864 when British admirals took their rank from their squadronal colour. There was no yellow squadron so a ‘yellow admiral’ therefore had no rank at all in the flag list.

The pressure to create ‘yellow admirals’ arose after the Napoleonic War (1803–15) when the list of post-captains was so large that the prospect of promotion was remote. Under the system of promotion then prevailing, every officer who had reached post-captain's rank was automatically promoted when his seniority brought him to the top of the list and a vacancy in the flag list occurred. It was to keep some movement in these lists that post-captains, on reaching the top by seniority, were promoted to flag rank and placed on the retired list on the following day, so that they did not automatically swell the rear-admirals' list.

Patrick O'Brian wrote a whole novel on the subject (The Yellow Admiral) when Captain Aubrey reached that stage of his career in book #18 of his classic and truly great series.

Here’s a couple from awhile back. I spent one summer really playing with macro photography. I was leaving the house and saw this critter crawling across the front steps.

My camera gear is stored just inside my front door and at that time I already a dedicated bag with my macro accessories in it. I was able to induce the caterpillar to climb on a twig and clamp the twig in an alligator clip which allowed me to position the caterpillar at easy angles to photograph without having to crawl into the shrubbery for a shot.

Wow, top notch macro shots, for sure!

Was it just the 100mm Macro Lens, or did you also use any converters or extension tubes?
