Here's one from a recent walk through one of the town's parks with the DA*300/4. I love this lens.

Too many to choose from. The DA*300 is on the camera 70% of the time. Some common birds

The surprise of its close focus:

New DA 300mm and K-5 II

First shots from my new toy (since yesterday): first one is a crop scaled to 50%, second one a 100% crop. I'm duly impressed!

I needed to revive this thread with new info for the Pentax K-1

I was browsing thru the 1678 photos I had taken at the Rogers Cup IN montreal 3 weeks ago... and I am really impressed on the IQ of the combo Pentax K-1 and SMC Pentax-DA* 300mm f4 ED [IF] SDM was able to render in the image.

For example, have a close look at this photo of Denis Shapovalov doing a serve.
It was shot in relatively low light conditions, and from the 3rd level in the Uniprix Stadium (I was maybe 100 meters from the subject).

Denis Shapovalov

Now, have a look at the next photo I published. It is a 1:1 crop (696 x696 pixels ) of the tennis ball, where we can clearly see the text "Penn ATP 3" and some bristly hairs around the tennis ball.

Denis Shapovalov

Please also note that this was shot wide-open at ƒ/4, 1/800s and 3200 ISO, and that this photo is direct from the camera body (RAW), no PP at all!.

Is this the only photo archive for this lens? It's such a fantastic lens that I'm hoping it isn't this neglected. Here are my photos after my first month. All taken with the 1.4x TC.

Odd, isn't it. I've heard how wonderful it is for several years and passed on it again and again and now I am very much wishing I had not (picked it up a month or two ago from a PF'r). The third of yours there is a stunner.

A few from the past month more or less, all on the K-3, no tc.

Legitimately odd that there've been no other posts since mine in April. I'll add a few more recent ones.
Clearly this is the consummate birding choice in the Pentax wolrd, as shown by others... I'm no exception to that choice.
Between it and the FA77 (my other most-used birder-glass) everything is pretty well covered. (Occasionally I'll break out the 50-135 as well, but that's fairly rare).

I guess most posts ends up in the 300mm+ or the DA* threads - fantastic lens!

Painted Lady. This is a massive crop from about 5m away!

The SOOC JPEG looks like this: I used a mini tripod, IR remote release and LV focussing to get the best possible result

(these images previously xposted)

This is part of a 14-image series of butterfly photos taken between 2018-07-06 and 2018-08-02. All were with the K-1 and DA*300; 9 of them were taken within the space of an hour, in an area about 240x80m, and are of 8 different species, with a couple more species being taken in the same area during the next few weeks. The rest were at various times and places in Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire and Surrey.

Rather than spam a single thread with all 14 images, I thought it would be fun to post them in different threads and provide a link from one to the next. Follow the links to threads you might otherwise never have looked at!

Onwards!
