Zeiss Ultron 50mm f1.8 concave front element

I saw that there was no thread on this little beauty. It's a small attractive lens that I find a joy to use. I like the stepless aperture also which helps when focusing in live view and stepping down. I will post the pic of the lens on the camera later, but first some samples:

John, without whom this would not have been possible (since I got an Icarex bayonet mount version instead of the M42):

Nice stuff, which we've all come to expect from Zeiss lenses on Pentax. That's not to detract from the skills of the operator, of course.

I've thought a lot about Zeiss glass in the past, but LBA has struck too many times recently. Maybe 2012 is the year for it, for me. I'd be interested to see the lens itself, regardless.

I've shot some more with the lens and it is a lot of fun - very nice on Pentax thanks to a well-dampened focus action and stepless diaphram. It is very susceptible to veiling glare, so if there is indirect sunlight expect ghosting on the images which can be largely be fixed in PP but of course not optimal.

If you like your images with a lot of tonal gradation and richness, you are probably better off with 50/1.2 but if you like simple clean tones, the out of focus transitions and the bokeh this lens produces, not shooting is harsh light, then Ultron has a lot to offer. Here are some more:

I will process and post some more (pic of the lens on the K-5 still to come!)

Since all the Zeiss Ultron pictures are gone, I thought I would add a few. All taken using film on an M42 camera.
