For those of you who have shot both, how does this lens compare to the FA50 macro? I know it's only 1:2 magnification (and lacks AF of course) but I'm finding its compactness very intriguing--especially since my pack weight has really gone up since I've entered the world of DSLR's.

Cannot compare to FA, but my first shots compare very well to my old Sigma EX 50. I need to try more distance shots to get a better overall impression. Now I can choose to hike with all AF or pick manual-focus primes from 17 fisheye to 200mm, so imaging-wise life is nice

I recently got a copy of this lens for a very good price from keh.com. It's quickly become my favorite 50mm prime, for it's sharpness and contrast:
